At 10.00ish, Hadleigh suggests doing the 'Pools'. He'd drown himself in that. He's dabbled in the lottery of life, choosing to believe in Vernon's integrity instead of his own shrewd judgment, & it's not paid off. On a separate matter, Mark Dignam reminded me of fellow actor Basil Dignam. This is not entirely surprising, given they were brothers! I didn't realise that snippet of info until I looked it up. There you go ...... Many thanks yet again for the upload 👍.

This 4th series is certainly an improvement on series 3. Gripping stuff.

I just subscribed and liked. I loved this show in the seventies and other than fashion cars and technology it has not aged a bit in terms of story lines and such. so happy to see this and can´t thank you enough to posting them, I am looking forward to the next episode. I like that you post them just once a week it builds the drama in them just like in the old days

How can James sit in the same room as the man who promised him the earth but made him bankrupt (I'd be hanging from his throat myself)? Strange to think that the young banker, Baker (Anthony Corlan/Higgins) is now 76 years old. Great episode - and not a Jennifer in sight (always a bonus, ha ha).

So much more enjoyable without Jennifer. James claims he still has hope to make the marriage work... Confounding!

I agree, I don´t know how anyone could live with here and if it were genders reversed i would still say the same, such an unpredictable person. Of course, to portray that takes one hell of a good actor!

@@ianmediumApparently the actress who played Jennifer when interviewed after she had left the series, said she couldn't bear making it. There were, to use that oft used quote, 'artistic differences'.😉

@@ianmedium I read that (with respect, as she’s deceased) she was a bit of an oddball in real life and had problems with alcohol, sadly but still - it takes a fine actress to portray someone so loathsome. RIP.

It took me until this episode to realise that Charlie, the father in law, is Spode from Jeeves and Wooster!!

The Black Shorts! I agree they look similar. Pedant that I am, I had a quick check. Turns out that Charlie is played by Gerald James, and Spode by John Turner.

Poor old gentleman Gerald is learning fast there's no honour in the world of high finance and that he better become street savvy like his father-in-law Charlie if he's going to save chez Hadligh being bought by a Saudi Prince. I remember Jenny Twigge in a very downbeat and rather depressing lunchtime serial from the same time as Hadleigh called Rooms.

Hadleigh seems to be circling the drain. Yes, we saw Jenny Twigge in Rooms on TPTV a year or so back. Her husband was an out of work bass player and they had a fraught relationship trying to cope with their baby.

@@davidfogarty2220 The super-posh and aristos these days often affect an "estuary" accent; not so often you hear that cut glass accent anymore, except amongs the older ones. Okay, yah ;-)

@@FoogouFilms Even those good old Lancashire accents you used to hear on Coronation Street have gone to the wall. Now it's the universal gangsta slang of 'Bruv, 'Innit' and 'Fam'. I often have to check what some yoof is on about using the internet's Urban Dictionary. There was also a time in the 60s when aristos and poshos thought it was chic to adopt a 'common accent' in order to fit in with pop groups and fashionable photographers who mainly came from the working-classes.
@FoogouFilms
@FoogouFilms Жыл бұрын
@@davidfogarty2220 Yes, I fear you are correct. I too resort to the Urban Dictionary on occasions. I'm probably even more out of touch with yood-speak than I was when I was city living. Being out in the sticks, those sort of things seem to change much more slowly generation to generation. What I do find though is that many of the younger generation don't have the "country" accent that maybe their grand-parents would have spoken with. Myself, I found my Midland accent had the corners rubbed off it during all the years I lived in Oxford - it's returned again now somewhat. Tarrarabit.
