Happy Christmas, David! I was part of an excavation at Peel Gap 2:25 in 1987 when it was realised that the foundations included an 'extra' Roman turret. The breach in the Great Winn Sill undoubtedly led to the tactical decision to add this 'extra' turret. I believe this is the only place along the entire Wall where such a turret exists. It was very exciting to be there on the day the structure was recognised as Roman. I was even part of a work gang that helped stabilise the root system of the famous tree at Sycamore Gap. Ad altiora!

Gosh what a thrill to find Peel Gap turret. I visited shortly after it was consolidated and it is very much a blind spot. All the best, David
