For Hagar, the lovable Viking, the period known as the Dark Ages was not all that dark. Laden with loot from his latest “business trip,” the happy-go-lucky Hagar sails for home only to find his loving family turned upside-down. As head of the house, Hagar has his hands full as he attempts to put his family back on track.

Good ol Optimus prime voice Hagar the Horrible, Peter Cullen and I think he did a bang up job. I remember seeing this cartoon only once when I was a young un. Still holds up even to this day too bad it never lasted long.

Hollywood missed a golden opportunity. Years ago I envisioned a TV sitcom based on Hagar the Horrible starring Alan Hale, Jr. as Hagar and Bob Denver as Lucky Eddie. I can just see Gilligan Island's skipper wearing that horned helmet. LOL!

Vikings never wore horned or winged helmets. Those would have been completely impractical. Horned and winged helmets were created by theatrical costume designers in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Great old stuff. I loved the Newspaper Comic strip. The favorite my family loved was when they tried to invade the Netherlands and were forced back into the water by the Dutch Women for being too filthy to enter the Country. My Dutch Imagrant Mother had a plack by the door that said don't bring mud further tha n the door mat.😁

If they're rowing, the pennant on the mast indicates the wind us coming from over the bow. So why is the sail up? The wind is one direction, they row the other, they are not getting anywhere. The pennant should be pointed forward or the sail stowed - pick one.

From the opening line where the crew start paddling backwards to the antics Hagar employs to decide which viking can take out Honey I was amazed by the amazingly funny script. This was a hidden gem of a special, and my childhood of being there when the newspaper arrived to look on the back cover for Dik Browne's weekly one column jokes made me curious to watch this......thankfully. I am going to find out more about this thing, who wrote it ect. Hanna Barbara weren't always so edgy in their stories so I wish to know how this came about. Will definitely watch this again! And I am not a fan of cartoons in general!!

I can see why this probably didn't catch on, as I never heard of it despite reading the comic for years. Many those short strip comics don't really translate well into longer cartoons. One the few that made it imo was the Garfield shows.
