I never knew there was an animated version, first time I heard his voice. I've been reading him in the comic strips for years trying to imagine what he would sound like.

Hollywood missed a golden opportunity. Years ago I envisioned a TV sitcom based on Hagar the Horrible starring Alan Hale, Jr. as Hagar and Bob Denver as Lucky Eddie. I can just see Gilligan Island's skipper wearing that horned helmet. LOL!

Vikings never wore horned or winged helmets. Those would have been completely impractical. Horned and winged helmets were created by theatrical costume designers in the 18th and 19th centuries.

I owned one single hagar the horrible book as a kid so i would read the same collection of comics repeatedly and never get sick of it (it was the 80s so no net or computer) and theyve captured the simple humour of hagars life perfectly although i didnt imagine him sounding so gruff or eddie sounding so stupid.

I remember watching this on television once, (and only once); I had just moved to New York City. I had to scan towards the very end just before the credits---the only part I distinctly remember is Hagar coming out of the History Book, and saying, "Don't you believe it.", and that Peter Cullen was the voice-over. Great old stuff. I loved the Newspaper Comic strip. The favorite my family loved was when they tried to invade the Netherlands and were forced back into the water by the Dutch Women for being too filthy to enter the Country. My Dutch Imagrant Mother had a plack by the door that said don't bring mud further tha n the door mat.😁

I remember comic strips borrowed from my father when I was a child. I heard his voice sound like Optimus Prime since I grew up watching cartoons in the late 80s and early-90s

Yes, the Vikings were a violent people when they travelled abroad. During the medieval period however, they were the most literate and educated Europeans outside of the Iberian peninsula. Also, try Vikings had the closest thing to democracy since the ancient Greeks till the modern time. Hagar may have been a brute but Hamlet was actually typical.
