Not many people will know this? But the 3,5 Litre Rover V8 used in the Morgan in this vid and used in so many British cars since Rover acquired it from Buick/GM in the mid 60s was actually an all alloy BMW designed 3.2 litre V8 sold to GM in the late 50s. This V8 was used by BMW in their 507 two-door convertible in the late 50s. GM developed this engine to 3.5 litre/215 cu before dropping it for various reasons.

I would take away the side mirrors and windshield. Add smaller mirrors and 2 small windshields. Put the spare wheel back inside its space witha proper petrol tank and engine. Reconditioning of wood if needed, paint. British Racing Green ? And electronics. Wait till you look under that dash. I love it ! Please please do publish more videos of this Morgan . Thank you !

In E.U we all ready have propane serving at gas stations. No propane hybrids in the US ? Though conversions to propane dont seem to work too well in the long run, I have seen Vipers and Hummers converted to propane down here. I helped with a 1969 restoration of a Plus 4, wood included. Its a lot of work but we found a good carpenter who ended up making a better than original restoration.

This reminds me of a barn find I stumbled upon 30 years ago. Came across several partially stripped cars in a barn where I worked at the time. A few old jags and a what turned out to be a morgan with a rover v8. A family friend eventually bought it at a bank auction and restored it. Beautiful car.

Tom. I think the Morgan has one tank for propane and the other for petrol . I understand that engines will not start on propane so need petrol for start up and then you change tanks. Propane over here (UK)is half the price of petrol so on fuel guzzlers it's a popular conversion. However , there are dangers with this type of fuel. Looking at all of those cars l think they will all need gentle recommisioning but not major restoration . Very crafty move by Morgan to evade the emmision laws . Tom is your Cobra a 260 or 289 ? I bet you bought that 30 years ago for a relative bargain or maybe your father bought it 50 years ago for peanuts ! Love your show Tom and your knowledge.

No, he bought it in early 80S in California after Tom sold a road circuit (can't remember the name of the place). He then went to get it with Peter Egan of R&T fame. They drove it across the country in early spring. Peter wrote the whole, amazing story in R&T. Quite a feat. PS I think it's got the 289 HO version. My very dream car.

When I was a senior in highschool in 1984 I had a 1976 Triumph TR6, it was my first car. It was red with the same brown chestnut interior as that car in the video, in fact, my TR was originally white as well, trim code 19 if I recall correctly. My TRs VIN was CF51849U. Yep, i still remember it after all these years and would love to know if that car is still around. Powering cars on propane or LPG was a very common in some countries in Europe due to very high petrol prizes compared to LPG. I drove Range Rover Classics 3.5V8 for over 18 years as a daily and always on LPG.They can start and run perfect on LPG and the Land Rover V8 verson of the Rover V8 can handle LPG very well without the need to worry about the exhaust valve and valve seats if properly set up. Only in wintertime when temp.gets below -0 C starting can get difficult due to the fact the low temp the LPG can't evaporate into gas fast enough or not at all. Starting on petrol and switch over when engine is warmer solves it. Looks like the system used in the Morgan is the American made Impco mixer system also used in Europe.
