Really a first class video and first class individual I’ve read all of his books and have been to his seminars. Extremely knowledgeable on cars and worked hard creating this content. I don’t understand the hate in the comment section as he personally met and talked to Carrol Shelby and has written a book on Shelby Mustangs, Shelby Cobra and the GT40 there isn’t anymore in my opinion more fit to make any videos on Shelby in the country other than him. Great guy, great video hope there are more to come.

@@kevinnorwood7355 Not so. Plenty of other hot cars were successful and sold well. It's only Shelby snobs that want to believe that their particular cars are so important. "Cars need a performance image, to worm their way into our brains". What BS. Never heard of the Beetle? Way more popular than the Mustang. Terrible performance. But a fun little car, which is what made it so loved. The narrator plainly admits to being a 'Shelby guy', so we give him a pass. But most of us Mustang owners, just wanted a nice car that was fun to drive, that we could afford. We knew we weren't actually going racing. When Iacocca left for Chrysler in the seventies, the Mustang lived on without him successfully, and continued to sell better than it's competition, and in mostly just plain old Mustang livery without all the fanfare of fancy stripes and such. I was one of those drivers who loved these cars for being what I needed. From my original 'stock' 289 (non K code) 3 speed stick '66 coupe to the modular engine V6 that came in the 2000's which had 300HP which was more than adequate, all the mustangs were fun to drive, even the straight six convertible I bought second hand in 76, ten years after it was built. While the smaller engined Mustangs would never win races, they were enough to be enjoyable to drive..... even the smog choked ones.

$500,000, really? I’m a Ford guy , love them all and Carroll Shelby built some great cars. But that much money to sit in a collection? These cars meant to be driven and even raced! I’m building a 63 Falcon Sprint race car for 10% of that value, and I drive my cars almost daily, and the Falcon will see some track time. And nobody will ask me, “is it real?”

Shelby Gt350 in 1965 had 14 units with custom made rear exiting exhausts. There were also several mid year small changes made to the production run. The 14 cars were higher number cars made by Shelby after June 1965. Mine was done on the second week of June 1965 and is a low 400 numbered car. The duals to the back are still plenty loud and on long trips you should still wear ear plugs.

There were over 400,000 coupes sold that year and only 75,000 fastbacks and only 32,000 fastbacks the following year, so to say that the GT350 is the car that saved the brand is a drastic stretch. Also there are actually articles and ads from the 1960’s calling the Mustang a “secretary’s car” so I really don’t think there was much of a marketing campaign to appeal to younger audiences as suggested. This whole video is just made up facts and personal opinions. I expect better from Hagerty.

Ford was looking for a car that could compete against Chevy's Corvette. After 1957 the 2 seat Thunderbird gained a back seat and became a profitable personal luxury car. Iacocca wanted Shelby to build him a race car version of the Mustang to compete against the Corvette. Shelby made the GT350 into a 2 seat sports car and got it sanctioned with the SCCA to compete in road racing against the Corvettes in which it was able to beat the Corvettes and finally give Ford the car that could compete against the Corvette. The Ford vs Chevy rivalry was still an important concern for both manufacturers.

The Mustang from Ford had most of the good bits if you ticked the right boxes. 271hp 289, close ratio 4 speed, numerous diff ratios. better suspension etc etc. Shelbys were better but were a LOT more expensive. So Shelby needed Ford far more than Ford needed Shelby. Detroit locker?? They are at best garbage. I raced a car fitted with one and the thing was clunking and banging on light throttle on constant radius corners. And the back of the car was walking all over the tyres doing so. And that clunking also broke 31 spline axles! Race cars use a spool and road cars use a decent LSD. I like Mustangs, but would never pay telephone number prices for a so called hero car. And would never build a replica either.

Is it just me or does he sound like he is calling the car a Mustaine? The car he is driving looks just like 5S089, which just sold for $499,000, which has no stripes, no mirrors and steel wheels. Also, I believe only 27% came from the factory with lemans stripes.

Even a 'secretary's' version of the '65 Mustang...a 200 I6 with an automatic....is worth money now if in good condition. Original Broncos are worth a lot money now. Falcons are worth money. Hell, even the Torino has a following now. Very strange indeed.
