Behold, the most powerful Shelby GT350 in history. Larry Chen is given exclusive access to the new 2025 Shelby GT350 built by Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc.
For the GT350 street version, Shelby American tuned and upgraded the car’s suspension, exhaust, styling and other elements for enhanced street driving experience. The 5.0L V8 powered street version Shelby GT350fastback is offered in both 480 and 810* (supercharged) horsepower versions and with a choice of manual or automatic transmission. The Shelby GT350 offer significant performance at an affordable price; the MSRP starts at $109,999 for the supercharged version, including the car.
The street legal 2025 Shelby GT350R has 830+ horsepower and will only be available with a six-speed manual transmission. As in 1965, the 36Shelby GT350R model cars will be white with two optional painted stripes and graphics packages available; gold/silver/black representing the historic race package and blue/white Shelby heritage package.
The street-legal, track-ready Shelby GT350R features a carbon fiber interior ‘tub’, optional carbon fiber racing seats and harnesses, carbon fiber trim, integrated roll cage, Turn Key Automotive/Motorsports, Trans AM spec high speed carbon fiber aero package, fully-adjustable, JRI race struts and shocks with remote reservoir, Pro Systems AIcon racing brakes, numerous chassis upgrades and more. GT350 owner here- this is very cool and something I would love to see in person. However, this isn't the true GT350 that ford made with an NA 8250rpm engine. This just shows how much more special the S550 will be down the road. To me, a SC S650 isn't special enough.

I don’t remember there ever being a conversation or review saying the GT350 needed more power. Yet, here we are. Porsche has delivered a ~500hp car since 2011 that gets faster and faster each year with roughly the same power. How about putting the money in getting some weight out of the S650, addressing any issues seen with the Voodoo, and delivering that car as 350. This is a well executed GT500

I'll also add that the 650 PCM is locked down hard so you'd have a tough time tuning a 5.2. one day someone will pop the "lock" but until then everyone's hands are tied.

Even without the voodoo, increase the redline of the 5.0, give it an aggressive tune, drop some weight, and give it a suspension, drop it down, and give it some fat ties.

Shelby is doing this as a 3rd party tuner without Ford’s financial assistance. I see this as a reasonable effort for a small company. What I cannot see is the value. The Dark Horse has an upgraded Coyote and suspension tuning. It only lacks the super charger. You get a Tremec and additional drivetrain cooling too. With this Shelby, you don’t get a Tremec manual transmission. No internal upgrades to the engine. Just boost. Suspension mods that likely makes the car difficult to live with as a daily driver. No changes to the bolt on screen in the interior. Just different leather and badging. Vinyl stripes instead of painted stripes. The Dark Horse engine upgrades mean that the engine should handle the boost better. In my opinion, the better option is to get a Dark Horse with the Ford Performance super charger installed at a dealer. This Shelby isn’t horrible. It’s a reasonable package that should have only been about 40 to 45K over the cost of the Mustang GT. The GT350R should be based off the Dark Horse.

Eh, the Voodoo is a cool enough engine but it’s no LT6. GM did it right by getting 670hp out of 5.5 liters of flat-plane V8 vs Ford’s 526 from 5.2… big power difference from what is essentially the same displacement. That being said, I do agree that this GT350 is no proper GT350 whereas the Voodoo-equipped S550 is.

Just looking at the comments I legitimately think Shelby America never once thought about the ramifications of their liscencing agreements. When Ford Performance makes a better "Shelby" then Shelby America you have a big marketing issue. These folks are really passionate and do good work but there are a variety of options for bolt-on packages that come with warranty. The modern Shelbys that people think of are special because they had a motor or transmission you couldn't get in other trims and they happen to be the cars engineered by Ford performance, not Shelby America.

Gary and Vince have consistently been an awesome duo with so much knowledge. My father and I used to go to lunch together with them when Shelby USA would bring cars to our chassis dyno out at the Las Vegas motor Speedway. We helped them from the Shelby Series 1 prototype in the late 90’s to the ‘08 Mustang GT500KR. Our shop was called Silver State Motorsports and we closed in 2009. I loved seeing these guys again, talking about what they love. Great video as usual!

The only way they could have justified the price was if they started with the dark horse. At least there you’re getting better internals and a better transmission. It’s crazy that you can go buy a dark horse, then pay to have a warrantied SC installed and it’ll be cheaper and higher performance than the GT350. These will go down in history as collection cars. Diehard Shelby fanatics will buy them because they want to have everything Shelby. It will have no mass market appeal.

just love that front look design on the diffusor and the iconic shelby line. The attention to detail on this car is just amazing. Cars nowadays have so much going in and out of the car, where the customer has to too much to think to know what to do. But here, its just simple, elegant, that mean look on both the front and the back is just amazing. I'm not a fan of having too much power on a car, yes 800 , 900 horses, whatever. But what I need the most in a car that to be called good at is handling through the sharp corners, talking to the car and believing in it to drive where I want it to go. And the more you speak to it, the more it listens and produce exactly what you are wanting to do. And FORD and its cars has always done it. HATS OFF TO FORD for keeping this as iconic as it is.

A very very nice looking car. My late grandpa in Serbia had Pontiac Firebird '59 . I loved it. I always wanted a AM car but never fell in love in one on first sight like this one. I know I will never have money to buy it but it ignited a fire in me like that Pontiac back then. ❤❤❤

@@Schmoose this is a silly comment. The original gt350 didn't have a voodoo. The new gt500 isn't based off of the old 5.4-5.8 engine and it doesn't come in manual . The new mach 1 didn't come with a different crank than a regular GT.

I owned a 2008 'Cobra' edition Falcon BF GT, white with blue vinyl stipes that went chalky and faded over the hood bulge (yeah the bonnet bulge here in Australia). Partly UV, partly the lump under the hood but at least paint will still be there when the kids inherit it. Nice work Larry 👍

Hate to say this....but a base GT with a whipple isnt a GT350.....when Ford made the previous gen GT350 and GT350R they were lightweight track specials focused on dynamics and a great engine not stupid power and idiotic mash of parts. The supersnake was a hit, this is just a cash grab and I hope it doesnt sell.

There were 3 generations of GT350 and most of them were modified GTs. Ford performance was the best but the only outlier.

One of the greatest things about the 2015-2020 GT350 run was it’s affordability. You could get one for mid $60k. The new one from Shelby starts at $109k. That’s a crazy jump in price and prices out the middle class!

550 vs 810 HP... I like 550 in my old school 2950 pound Mustang of 1985. I can stay in the powerband longer for more fun and of course mine is paid for and I can repair and tune with a wrench and screwdriver. 10 years from now what shops will be able to repair it without factory software support? 70 yrs. old and still enjoy my old school fun!

I like it, but I'm a little concerned that Ford will soon discontinue the use of Shelby on factory vehicles now that they've partnered with RTR for the Ecoboost. The Shelby name carries real racing pedigree, and while Vaught Gittin Jr. does cool stuff, switching from Shelby to RTR makes a Mustang appeal to young drifter while alienating a lot of the existing customer base.

Ford did discontinue the use of the Shelby name on factory vehicles. This is a Shelby American product, not a Ford engineered or built one. It seems like a Mustang GT with some performance bolt ons and a few unique styling parts (wheels, front bumper, grille, rear wing, badging ,etc.). Ford Performance will still likely do Mustangs, there's rumors of the Boss name making a comeback, just not with the Shelby name anymore.

For me the best modern looking mustangs were the 2015/2022. All time best 1965/1966/1967 I’m luckily enough to have restored a 66 Mustang coupe, be the first time properly on the road this spring/ summer. Can’t wait! It’s good to see Ford still making mustangs with v8’s though 💪🏽
