@gemsrock22584 жыл бұрын
This was that era of A R Rahman in which his style of music was completely new to Bollywood(or to Indian Music Lovers I should say). That time, when his song used to come out, first impression - "ok", hear it second time - "good", third time - "better", fourth time - "wow, that's a nice one", and then you would go on listening to it until you have heard each second of it. It was not just the melody(Raag based at times) that used to be great, each and every music piece had its own existence(especially percussion and flute) and still it could perfectly blend in the entire song. The rhythm section used to be so strong that almost each and every beat played on all his songs was unique. I mean I have never heard that beat before and after this song. And from Roja, whatever movie he did(upto a certain point), had songs like that having unique rhythm. Hence I guess, people had to listen to the songs multiple times because they were not able to "listen" to it 100% in first attempt. Its like there is a dinner and you have 100 top class recipes and you are asked to go with one plate and dine. You wont understand what to eat. You will have to dine multiple times to test different dishes to enjoy them. His songs used to be like that(It hurts me to use past tense). The more you used to hear, more they used to drive you crazy! Who all agree to me?

Wester audience got to hear AR Rahaman pretty late. Between 1992 (Roja - his first movie) to early 2000 was the period when he was at epitome of his brilliance. Make no mistake he is still the best, but when we first heard him in 1992 to early mid 90's, the sounds be brought fore were completely unheard of. People literally were wonderstruck at his brilliance. He just kept belting one chart buster album after another during that time period. Pretty much every Indian would agree to the fact that, the Oscar he got for Slumdog Millionaire, is not even his best work. The guy is a national treasure.

Some of the scenes and dialogues like the one in the 5 star hotel can never be forgotten, they are superb! But, not sure if you would be able to appreciate the dialogues as much after the English translation. Trivia - This is the debut movie of the 3 people, who went on to become very successful - AR Rahman (first Hindi music), Manish Malhotra (Costume designer) and Ahmed Khan (Choreography). Another fact - RGV and Aamir had a fight/misunderstanding after the movie, and never worked together ever again.

Hello. For your information this particular song is in the raaga "kamavardhini", a raag in carnatic classical music (puriya dhanashree raag in hindustani) which means " that which makes you arouse"... The raaga is specially used in such intense style but in a devotional way in Classical music.. It uplifts the mood of the listener always..

I have never seen the film or this video but have heard this song many times as a kid. But not around this my current age. Gosh. Amazing music. I can hear so much more now. And the visuals. Wow. I mean they say that movies are sexual now? Oh please. Look at the passion here!
@saatsamunder154 жыл бұрын
The song proves that sensual does not equal vulgar. Compare it with Nora Fatehi's in your face vulgarity. There was so much simmering passion between Jackie Shroff and Urmila.RGV's guidelines were Sridevi's song Kaate nahin from Mr. India and the National Geographic shows about tigers/lions mating.

Man that number is etched in my memory,feels like yesterday. You're right it was beyond risque for Bollywood the and it was definitely the sexual awakening for us teenagers then😂😂 . I would recommend this movie for a lot of reasons ,the cinematography,the briliant performances ( I have to give credit to RGV) and the music but just the fact that it was pathbreaking in terms of content for the time is reason enough to recommend it to you good folks.

Guilty pleasure of 90's .... It was a path breaking movie in terms of music, choreography, costume & song picturisation. The credits of the movie started with the names of choreographers. Lot of debutants in various departments. Must watch 💕💕💕

The movie is fun, its a pretty Bollywood 'formula' type movie, so make sure you take it with a generous pinch of salt and note that most movies of the 90's had actors overacting, that was the general cinematic style of acting and thats what made most movies of that decade work

Rangeela is actually a great classic. At the time it was a ground breaking. It was so fresh and was so different from all the movies being made at time not just in terms of the story and direction but also the music and fashion. Also it's a movie about film making.

Jackie Shroff is blimmin’ gorgeous! And a great actor too. He has a lovely voice and a great laugh - you’ll know when you hear him laugh. Urmila was a revelation in this film. I wish she would come back because she truly is a brilliant actress!!!

Jackie is hot. Especially in black. He makes sure to dress in black for at least one song in all his movies. Extra points for those long legs.

This is an epic movie. Its songs,music,characters all are classic. Urmila rose to the stardom cuz of this movie i believe,she was a goto actress for RGV.... also aamir khans role as munna was just fab. Remember watching this movie at the theatre it was housefull urmila became darling of the nation.Take a bow RGV!! Hope you have forgoten to make movies like rangeela,satya etc.

This movie changed the Indian cinema, they way we perceived it back then, this was a contemporary jolt and it was A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE. It has been 25 years to Rangeela and the songs grew slowly and is one of the best album in Indian cinema. Also, URMILA URMILA URMILA. She changed the definition of Indian film heroine, smashing the patriarchy and the image, the fashion industry and her looks. Urmila is one of the most underrated actresses of 90’s and I hope you guys will watch her other performances as well. Especially, Bhoot, Kaun, Pyaar tune kya kiya.
I would've recommended songs from Bandish Bandits because Shankar Ehsaan Loy have done a marvelous job, but I'd rather you watch the series and enjoy it bit by bit. It teaches you so much about Indian classical music, the rigorous training and the 'gharana' system. Naseeruddin Shah has done a fabulous job, ofc, but all the other actors are also phenomenal! Especially the Rathod family. It's shot in Rajasthan so the locations are also perfectly aesthetic, compliments the story-line. For the first time in the history of Indian cinema, a team got together and after doing proper research on the artform created something this beautiful. Many artists have appreciated the series for its honesty to the craft and for also making sense of it in this day and age. And it's funny af. YOU SHOULD WATCH! Trust me.
