Lets be real , almost everyone said the same thing about Haikyuu but we all end up falling in love with it from the first episode. You will not regret watching this at all. It is not the best sport anime , It is one of the best anime ever in general.

I have never even tolerated slice of life. But Haikyuu truly is different. An anime solely driven by organic character development. No shoe horned drama, no cliche love triangles, no mustache-twirling villains. Just a VERY well written story of highschool kids growing as people as they strive to do better at the one sport they all love. There's a very well known joke in the Haikyuu fandom. "The best part of Haikyuu is that you love every character. The worst part of Haikyuu is that you love every character." This anime gives development even to side characters and benched players. It's almost impossible not to find someone relatable that you see yourself in. That makes every official game (if you thought this was hype, wait until real tournaments) bitter sweet. Because the ones losing aren't villains. They're just other kids that wanna win. I truly believe you'll fall in love with the show. So make room in your heart for all the characters you'll slowly start caring for.

Agreed, I like slice of life anime but the genre NEEDS good writing and interesting characters otherwise it turns out boring. The actual best thing in my opinion about Haikyuu is that it genuinely shares the love for volleyball to its viewers, and knows how to make the sport, story, and character aspects amplify each other. And as a result, you also end up gaining appreciation and learning a lot about the sport. I grew up in Hawaii and loved watching a lot of volleyball growing up since our University usually has a good team. After watching Haikyuu, I learned even more deeper strategies and techniques that I never even realized while watching the sport. And yes, the characters are so amazing that you end up appreciating or at the very least understanding every single one of them. There are a TON of characters, but somehow the show keeps nearly all of them fairly unique, interesting, and relatable even though you may only see them for 1 or 2 episodes. The character development is brilliant. Sometimes there will be seeds planted early on that doesn't end up blooming until a season later. Needless to say, glad you picked up Haikyuu. I've watched a fair amount of decent sports anime, but this is in my opinion the best one out there. Honestly one of my top favorites of all time for any genre as well.

Finding your channel for the first time and hearing “I may drop this anime-“ then glancing back to your main channel page and seeing thumbnails of you crying during later episodes is very funny to me. Something tells me you’re in for a fun ride.

This is probably a personal bias from someone who was an ex athlete her whole highschool life but this is arguably* the best opening for me imo. It's surreal seeing what I felt in highschool from every aspect of sports meet and athlete POV laid out in the very first episode already which are perfect tangibles presented to these characters. That humiliation from other schools players, the perseverances, mindsets, losses, alone trainings, even people making fun of me for when I train alone and whenever I ask for help (Taekwondo mostly /Badminton) and lol even the "making memories" line of Kageyama .... I think this series is gonna win you over and you'll continue. I was as hesitant to start this as you too. Can't wait to share more of that heartwarming, crying-happy-mess episodes Teddy

I was never a big fan of sports anime either but somehow I ended up watching haikyuu a few years ago and was hooked pretty quick. The story and animation in this anime is fantastic even if you aren't a volleyball fan. Hope you continue to enjoy it!

Actually same, I'm not really into slice of life and sports anime, so I always disregard haikyuu when I'm looking for a new anime to watch. But deym, I started watching it when I was really bored and there's nothing on my watchlist, and I gotta say it is really good. Totally deserved the hype now that I've watch it. I've even rewatch the whole season for like five times now. No powers or fictional things in this anime but the plot and the chracters is awesome. There's so much to love in this anime. I hope it will be the same for you, it's fine if its not tho.

This was the first sport anime i watch since captain tsubasa when i was a kid. I knew nothing about volleyball and yet after a few season i loved this anime at the point that i wanted to play volleyball. That is how good this show is and i hope you will like it too.

I'm not into sports anime too. My young sis kept asking me to watch haikyuu but I ignored it like no I don't like sports anime. Then, last year I was just bored so I decided to watch new anime and I chose Haikyuu bcs why not try new things. Let me tell you, these boys are in my head 24/7 since then fck T-T I watch many reaction to haikyuu after that. This is literally the best shounen anime ever. Doesn't matter if you don't like sports or know the sport by season 4 you can literally watch real volleyball. And there is no romance but the shipping is real cause everyone's chemistry is so good and everyone (like all 70+ of them) is cute friends/rivals. Though for me my favorite part of this anime is the absolute TRUTH bombs it drops. You wanna play? You gotta be GOOD.

Good sports series are not about the sport, they are about passion, the sacrafices and so on. Do you need to know about boxing to appreciate Rocky ? Now don't get me wrong, some go into very minute detail about the sport itself, which is cool in the sense that you get to learn something about a thing you didn't before, but that is also true about any other show like learning about the world in an isekai etc. The grounding is always the drama, the hype, the highs and lows, and while this show doesn't exactly come close to the soul crushing that is AoT, that doesn't mean that it doesn't hit emotional beats. It just has it all and as far as sports anime goes this is as good as it gets (a personal favorite is actually "Run with the wind" and i hate running, lol. Certainly lesser known and wouldn't attract the same amount of views, but highest recommendations from me). Really hoping you get into this, but sometimes one just doesn't vibe with a show for whatever reason. I guess what i'm saying is, if you actually dropped it, it wouldn't be the end of the world even if some people make it sound like that. You do you, but thanks for giving it a shot despite the reservations.

Could you watch Vinland saga next? Season 2 is coming up later this year and season 1 is an outright masterpiece. The music, scenery, fights, characters, concept and philosophy of this anime are absolutely magnificent. + its only 24 episodes.

I usually don't like Sports anime for how Over the top they are. Like Kuroko no Basuke felt more like Dragon Ball on Basketball Court. But Haikyuu is different. While animation is superb, and sometimes feel over the top, it's still grounded to reality. There was hint's of Romance for a bit, which i appreciate. Also you don't need to know anything about Volleyball, since they'll explain it for you, and leaves you more educated about it lol Personally, i LOVE Slice of Life. Relaxed feeling when you watch few episodes after hard day at work is surreal. But it's hard to find good Slice of Life Anime. Only few i could recommend is Usagi Drop, Natsume Yuujinchou (Even though it's about spirits and fantasy, it still gives you that feeling) and Yuru Camp. So, on that note, Haikyuu is not really Slice of Life, even tags say so. It's Sports Anime, and what comes with it.

Heck, I love this series so much that I've rewatched this more than 5 times.
