Here's an analysis of my thought process (as an Asian lesbian who went to a historically women's college): - #1 says she's curious about pride but hasn't gone - most South Korean queers I know go to pride actively, and if she wanted to lie she could just say she's not interested/hasn't gone, instead of emphasizing that she's curious. - #2 says she's open-minded (which I feel like is kinda weird for a lesbian to say - I wouldn't be confident enough to say I'm open-minded right off the bat). also she didn't know about lolita fashion, which is quite a popular subculture in EA and I would assume a lesbian would know. - #3's story was about a friend having a crush on her and her feeling sad about losing that friend. I'm usually on the other end of this so she feels straight lol. Around me there are quite a few "cool" girls who like androgynous fashion like this but aren't gay. Also something about her tone towards the end, when she was almost being voted out. - #4's obvious comment later on about not wanting gay people to be "pushing" for acceptance. Not to assume the worst of her-that might be a translation/culture thing too. But even before, it was quite obvious in her saying that even with her lover she held their hand casually, that she did not date girls. Most lesbians around me love holding hands and being intimate. - #5 looked sus from the start. Main reason is for most of the video all I think is she's beautiful and I want to marry her. Also in her first guess she first did a heart, then went from a 5 sign to a 4 sign, which suggests a little bit of fumble. She looks like she'd be into girls too with the way she laughs at their comments (especially when #1 was introducing herself). Plus, the insane number of rings. It's everything added together, really. - #6 is quite close, but in her defence she blushed a little/seemed a little embarrassed when mentioning her relationship with a guy? She just seems like a shy girlie. To conclude: yes, using stereotypes to judge whether or not other people are gay is bad (this video shows how often people are wrong!), but so much of the community-making experience as a queer person has been using subtle hints to figure out whether or not someone is also queer, so I think it can be justified. Also I usually end up liking straight girls so this was very affirming for me.
