"Hail, Gladdening Light" is an 1834 translation by John Keble of the early (3rd century?) Greek hymn, 'Phos Hilarion'.
The tune is 'Sebaste', written by Sir John Stainer in 1875. The name is a Greek word, meaning ‘revered one’.
It is performed here by the Choir of Wells Cathedral.
