@@fillinggaps1975 to hate on right now? This isn’t some trend that’ll fizzle out people have been calling out this company for well over a year for their lack of research on the “therapists” they hire. Statistics or not if an overwhelmingly large amount of people are coming forward with stories about how these therapists belittled or totally mishandled their mental illnesses it should be taken serious. If a hospital was put on blast for their malpractices and reputation for neglecting and hurting their patients and someone made an ad about how great they are I’m sure you’d be singing a different tune.
@fillinggaps1975 Жыл бұрын
@@jamiezingsworld5887 It absolutely IS a trend to hate on BH right now; as noted, this happened before and fizzled out. But ok. Yes, companies should be called out for their bad practices, absolutely. Hospitals absolutely get called out, too! A lot. But no one (that I'm hearing) says "shut down the hospital." It's more like, "We need to reform healthcare." So yes, BH should make changes, but again (maybe I didn't say this here before, it might have been another thread), but again, the general public doesn't understand the actual issues, and all these YT's making misleading videos about "the truth" about BH is doing so much damage. Ok, that last sentence was another though, not really directly replying to what you stated. I totally agree - crappy therapist should not be on BH, and I am guessing they stop getting referrals when there are enough complaints about them from subscribers on the platform. As I said...elsewhere....on a thread on this video, I think, BH requires therapists to submit their ACTUAL LICENSURE to them to even be hired, so there is no reason to put "therapists" condescendingly in quotes. Therapists have to interview, create their own profile and get it APPROVED, and submit their licensure to even work on the platform. BH staff certainly "research,' in a way, their therapists before they're hired. Just like in any profession or job interview, the therapist may look great on paper or interview really well, but how they practice sucks. Again, I would imagine those therapists stop getting subscribers and can no longer practice on the platform. All this to say, all areas of practice in the MH system suck in a lot of ways, but people don't protest ads for hospitals, mental heath centers, or other places (as far as I know) like they do BH. It's a trend right now.

@@fillinggaps1975 no it’s not a trend right now not sure if you’ve been living under a rock but I’ve seen this company get called out several times for almost 2 years now. And I put therapist in quotes because I find it ludicrous that a group of professionals who should be well aware of mental illnesses and how they take a toll on the human brain regularly mishandles their patients. It is unacceptable that someone seeking help from religious trauma be paired with a therapist who shoves religion down their throat. It is unacceptable that someone comes to you with a diagnosis from previous mental health professionals and you’ve never heard of the illness so you look it up IN FRONT of your patient and then go on to tell them it sounds made up and that they’re being dramatic. This just being a few of the horror stories. Regardless if it’s done purposely or not this will ALWAYS be attached to their brand and company. And as an influencer it is incredibly irresponsible to promote such a company. Just as it would be irresponsible to promote a company known for scamming or giving low quality products. You need to realize this is not someone complaining about not like the fabric of a jacket bought from a boutique. This is quite literally peoples lively hoods in jeopardy. I don’t get why you’re fighting tooth and nail to defend this exploitative corporation who didn’t require actual LICENSED therapists to be employed by them at one point in time. Who also had in their terms in conditions that they were allowed to sell your information. And not to mention that as little as a few months ago was affiliated with a site that was stealing therapists information and creating fake therapists profiles and when you clicked to book would be redirected to their site. Mind you these therapists did not authorize the creations of these profiles and did not work for better help.They are sketchy, PERIOD. I’m sure there are people who’ve had a great experience but all it takes is one fuck up and the good no longer matters. You don’t get to just continually fuck up when the matter at hand is peoples health.

@@fillinggaps1975 Hey I would have a look at the greater youtube community on this :) There are a lot of essayists that do a great job covering this, but for a start: SmokeyGlow, Epiphany by Yenzel, and Fab Socialism. TLDR; I started therapy over career and adhd stuff and months later ended up with financial stress, depression, career and adhd stuff as a result of them taking money and never rendering service. -- My personal experience: I needed therapy but I was working 12 hour shifts and in person was not an option. I wanted to see if there were any therapists that specialized in ADHD, but I think at the time I had to give them payment info to browse (? not sure been a long time, but they had my info even though I was still shopping around). I messaged a lady who seemed like a good fit, and got a canned/copy-pasted onboarding message in response. Immediately turned off by this, I logged out and continued my search elsewhere. Months and months later, I miss my car insurance payment, and upon checking my bank statement I find out Betterhelp had gradually siphoned over $600 from my accounts. This is despite me never completing onboarding or messaging my therapist for anything more than the very first message. I log back in to check my acc and find she would check in like "Heeyyyy what's up? :)" now and then, even tho I am clearly not on the site or responding. Maybe Betterhelp lets you stay matched if you check in like that? Idk, but she didn't mind taking my money despite knowing full and well I was AFK and not getting help from her. I was disgusted, and I did eventually get my money back, but it took a LONG time.
@fillinggaps1975 Жыл бұрын
@@keropi193 Ok, thank you for sharing some resources. I imagine the essayists you listed are opinion KZbin commentators? Thank you for sharing your story. I empathize with your struggle with ADHD and career stuff. I have some feedback for you, regarding your experience: -I do believe you have to put your payment info in to browse, so it makes sense that they charged your account. The therapist should have individualized your greeting message, I agree. It sounds like she was unprofessional. However, it sounds like you made an impulsive decision after that, by logging off and never canceling your account (I am guessing due to ADHD brain?). -Since you gave your card number, yes, BH will charge your card....for your monthly subscription. You literally signed up for a monthly subscription and forgot to cancel it. This is the same thing that would happen if, say, you signed up for a Hulu account and forgot to cancel it. I understand the big difference here is that the charges are 100's of $$ vs say, $15 a month. -Which leads me to ask: How did you not noticed that a few hundred dollars a month were being charged until you missed your car insurance payment? I imagine this is part of your struggle with ADHD, however, it is dramatic and misleading to say "Betterhelp had siphoned off over $600 from my accounts." Excuse me? You signed up for a monthly subscription and forgot to cancel it; they aren't 'siphoning' money from you; they charged you for the subscription you signed up for; I cannot reiterate this fact enough. -The therapist sounds very unprofessional in how she was messaging you, but here's an insider tip: the therapists get prompted to check in with you, and honestly, these check in messages should have alerted you that you still had a BH account. Subscribers get soooo many messages in their emails and possibly texts (it depends what alerts you sign up for, I think) saying "Your therapist has sent you a message." How did you miss alllll those emails in your inbox over a few months? -Yes, you would stay matched to the therapist you chose unless you actively unmatched from her. I'll let you know that that therapist got noooottttthhhiiinnnggg of your money except for literal pennies from her check in messages. She is an independent contractor. BH will get your money, which is fair, since you signed up for a subscription and didn't cancel it. That's how subscriptions work. -There's really not much the therapists can do when subscribers go AFK except continue sending check in messages. It's up to you to cancel the subscription. -It sounds like your experience with BH was greatly affected by living with ADHD, which is no one's fault, but it's not fair to throw a valid company's reputation under the bus, call it a scam, etc., when you chose not to use the service you signed up for.
