Am I the only one who falls asleep with audio books? I can’t focus hearing the story. I need to actually hold the book and read the words for it to stick.

Same. I think it's an effect of being a visual learner. I wish I could focus on them though because I have such a long work commute!

I'd prefer to read a physical copy but I do sometimes listen to audio books. I've always been where I remember stuff better if I hear it from someone else so I sometimes do listen to one just to better remember it.

When I have a bad month, day, whatever, I think about the ‘Wheel of fortune’ made popular by Shakespeare. Basically, the idea is similar to ying and yang, life balances itself out. We have periods of tremendous good fortune, when things just seem to be falling into place; that balances out by periods in time when everything seems to be going wrong. So, if you’re going through a rough patch, good things are on the horizon. Truly, I’ve found this to be so true in my life, like energy is sort of working its own balance in my life. My bad things all seem to happen together, same as my good things. So, keep your head up lovely.

I read save the date the same year you did but I loved it and cried at the end because I was leaving for college in a month just like she was and omg it jsut meant so much to me. And I loved how it was focused on family not romance. That was excellently refreshing

That was so cute, with Lucy! lol anyways, comments! Onyx & Ivory sounds like either inspired or a re-telling of Patricia Mckillip's "beast of Eld" which I enjoyed, check i tout, it's just about 200 pages long, that's all. (yes it's a fantasy) Honor among thieves sounds very interesting ! and, as on aside, I find that I hear my wife through your comment about theoretically wanting to travel the universe, but you wouldn't, coz you're too scared. It's like, verbatim my wife (though she'd add, not only danger, but also comfort of home would be missed) You read so much, it"s amazing!

Sky in the Deep was kinda a huge let down for me. From the synopsis, I was expecting an epic Viking story, but it just....wasn't. I ended up listening to it while following along in a physical copy, but I don't think actually reading it won't change much. What I did really like about it was the look at human nature and character development. Solid 3/5 for me, but I don't think it's worth trying to read again.

I was so disappointed with The Price Guide to The Occult for the same reason. My expectations were so high because The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender is my all time favorite novel. but yeah. Price Guide didn't do it for me. There was sooooo much with Nor's self-harming, I didn't get to know HER if that makes sense. I didn't know the characters, I felt like it was just.... there. reading the physical copy makes no difference. maybe Leslye's next book will better.

@SamanthaSteMarie6 жыл бұрын
I recently read The Price Guide to the Occult and I have to say that I didn't really like it. I thought it was interesting but fell very short for me. AND I honestly feel like it's a rip off of Practical Magic. Cursed female witches - CHECK. Main characters lives with two female relatives - CHECK. Main character is apprehensive of her magic and want to hide it - CHECK! I spell that brings people back from the dead and they come back as some "dark and unnatural" - CHECK. Pretty much all the main themes came from Practical Magic... so I was super turned off by it in the end.

Do you think maybe the reason you’re in this slump is because of audio books?? I just don’t think they’re the same at all... it’s not the same kind of intellectual creation and imagination usually used within reading by yourself - much of the tone of the story is decided by the speaker.
