Why is it so satisfying to watch someone pack books? 😄
@ngairepowell20223 жыл бұрын
I group all my books by size and pack them like that, I also stack them with the spines facing up. It stops them bending and moving around. I usually put two layers of books and then pack the top with a towel or clothes so the box isn't too heavy. I've moved 10 times in the past 9 years with thousands of books and I've never had a damaged book. I also make a cross with tape on the bottom of the box for extra support.

I'm also in the process of packing & moving into a new home. It feels good to know someone packs their books exactly the way I do! Good luck on the move, Hailey! 🙂

this is PERFECT timing, I'll be moving for the first time in 7 years in late october of this year! Edit: what are your tips for packing paperback books? I am SO scared to bend them somehow
@HaileyinBookland3 жыл бұрын
I’d maybe wrap them in a reusable bag before packing if you’re really worried! Or just make sure they’re laying flat so they won’t bend
@nicoledreibelbeis21923 жыл бұрын
When you are laying them side by side, put them spine to spine instead of spine to pages, that way they won’t bend the edges/pages and one won’t get shoved inside the other. Former librarian here who had to pack books for transport between branches 🙂
@bookluver6273 жыл бұрын
I also used soft things (like book sleeves) to fill in extra space around the edges or between flat stacks.

Pack them VERY tightly, if they can't move/slide , they can't bend

Sounds around me too determine my mood. I don't like loud noises. They make me anxious. Books are super easy to pack, I just forget to pack lightly lol 😆. You tape your boxes just like me. 👍We both are similar in how we pack our books 📚. I have my books currently in plastic totes so they don't get damaged. We def think alike too on the stacking of boxes to save your back. My husband refuses to play SIMS anymore because he says he kills them everytime he plays lol 😆. My husband just said "Good God to 17 boxes" but than looks at me and says "sounds like you." What can I say, I LOVE books ❤

I generally try to put books together by size and then fill other parts with smaller books, and eventually i fill gaps with clothes or towels or other things to bake sure it doesnt move too much, or i do half books half clothes for bigger boxes to make sure they dont get too heavy to carry
@Sarasstorytime223 жыл бұрын
You might want to put the paperbacks that are on top with the spines facing up, the opposite way. Like have the spines facing down so the pages don't get so bent. Just sharing a tip that I have done. Good luck with the move!
@andymva13 жыл бұрын
Pro tip, start from the bottom, that way the bottom box fills up first and you can do that sitting down and as you go the boxes will stack. That way you dont have to stand up for the bottom ones.

I moved just a month ago and every box that I had had a layer of books on the bottom because no one in my family (including me) was able to carry a box full of books and I couldn't find small enough ones.

8:57 I almost drooled over the Mister Impossible book here. I still need to get it. I need to get it ASAP. But then I'll want to read it. But I still need to read aaaaaaaall those other books on my TBR. Oof. Thanks for making my heart bleed. (But, you know, in a good way.)

Nice enjoyable little video, but many of the tips go against what the professionals say. For example, better to put hardbacks flat - if you put them spines up then the pages can pull and damage the spines.

7:40 I am triggered by your box assembly :)))) In Europe we fold the bottom in a cross pattern so the tape is not necessary, just a nice bonus :D
@Raindrop24243 жыл бұрын
I‘m from Germany and find it always so odd that in the us and Canada you have to tape your boxes. Really curious why it’s that way 🤔 Here most boxes have bottoms that are folded and stuck inside and then you put you stuff on that folder piece (sorry bad explanation) and then the top ist also like with slots or a cross pattern. There is barely ever tape used. Only for like boxes that are to full. Also you can just easily disassemble the boxes and store them away easier.
@HaileyinBookland3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, for books the box would be destroyed without any tape either way. But also it isn’t possible to build these boxes like that because there’s a gap and it doesn’t perfectly line up
@ABookishBalance3 жыл бұрын
My husband folded a box this way for my books once, when he lifted the box the bottom completely opened because it was too heavy to support that type of folding style 😬
