There’s a brilliant Paul Thomas Anderson trope at 12:19 during the guitar solo in ‘Nothing’s Wrong’: the footage flicks from Danielle in the light on drums to Danielle in the dark on the guitar, almost as if contrasting two memories or recalling the meaning of the music. He achieved something similar at the end of ‘Licorice Pizza’ when Alana and Cooper’s characters chase each other through L.A., recalling memories of running to each other’s rescue earlier in the film. Very powerful.

Licorice Pizza brought me here. PTA's direction is brilliant. Simple. Beautifully crafted. He draws the best out of actors...and obviously musicians, too. He knows the joy of seeing music performed live. And this music is (mostly) LIVE, and it is great! My introduction to Haim. I've haven't explored their music beyond these three songs, but it's obvious..."they're the real deal," we used to say. Awesome band...real and raw and kick-ass, with enough "pop" to hook me.
