Hair Boom Oil Demo

You shampoo because hair collects oil. That means it can collect petroleum oil spills too. Over 300,000 pounds of hair are cut each day in the US and not to mention all the clippings from pet groomers.

Food for thought...I work with special needs kids & we teach them Functional Living Skills. This includes preparing for work buy having them do free work for local companies. Some of that work we take back to the schools and have the kids do there. I could easily see many students being capable of boxing hair or even making hair booms. These guys just love to be helpful. Just another valuable volunteer resource that surrounds you. :) Thank you for continuing to choose to be the right choice

Hey Great Idea. Im really stoked to see this is happening. I've done testes myself and have found the booms to be successful at absorbing the oil. However they should be tied together and attached to flotation devices to insure there success. They also seem to work better in calm water and even on shore. Def not to be pulled behind boats as they are still somewhat fragile. Unless maybe in burlap sacks.

It looks so interesting, but I have some questions, I want to do that in a place for treatment of waste water in Peru, but Can you tell me, what do I have to do after using the hair boom? where can I put them? is it posible to do compost ? and also, how long time can I use a hair boom?

Gr8 vid! Sounds like Great Clips and Supercuts need to be doing their own part to assist by donating the obvious.. Then we can have our Heath Boards and EPA come in with some contraDICKtory regulation about it being a health hazard.. Just a thought following a thought..

@TheUSVET Hay is cool however hay has many other uses. Human hair once its cut has very few applications so we want to keep it OUT of the waste stream.

What's are you doing with the hairboom full of fuel ? I want to try this because all the river in my country are contamined by fuel (Using for warming the houses and tank were broken by the floods)

Kind of ironic, without oil you wouldn't have the nylons or the plastic mesh to make the booms.

If you watched the whole video you would see that this is not different from the ottimat... as they are partners. Don't jump to conclutions. We concluded that BP knew what they hell they were talking about when they created this mess, along with the rest of the oil industry. Sometimes the best thing to clean up a manmade disaster is not a manmade solution but a natural one.

Is this an EPA approved product? you just can't use anything out there to clean an oil spill. a petroluem contaminated beach is toxic...can volunteers just go and clean a beach? don't you need to be trained or something? What do you do with the sausages when they are used? burning them is also bad for the environment. How are these different than the other hair mats "Ottimat" that are also on you tube?
