Thank you for choosing to be the right choice! BP can pay the out of work Gulf Coast Workers to help with the clean up. Pay for time use of any & all boats that can safely operate within the area of the spill. Of course any damage & cleaning needed will be provided by BP. Workers, can be put to work composting, creating compost containers, gathering all the necessary ingredients for composting, crews on the ships-helping troll the water with hairmats Be Helpful Not Hurtful Charles Hancock

@cleanhomer I was referring to 'our' precious sea life and 'our' future, as in the "human race", not just the USA. Also, in regard to what do with the hair once it is saturated with oil. Take the oil deposited onto the hair strands and dump it into barrels. So we can later convert it into gasoline to deplete the ozone at our leisure. :3
@jhovyjhov14 жыл бұрын
that is what the people did here in the Philippines, when a ship sunk in the ocean. they collect hairs and use to soak up the oil spilled in the ocean. and they use coconut husk. it also helps to soak up the oil..

Interesting. They still need to clamp and seal it, but this will minimize collateral damage. We need to do something about the long haul. I'm thinking of getting solar panels and two batteries (one back up in case the primary fails). It'd be pretty cool to run this computer off of solar power. I could use a few more similar set-ups for my kitchen appliances and some CFL's; be completely self-reliant.

Went to the web site (after watching the video silently--thanks for captions!--at work). Would like to find a list of barbers that already participate, but can't seem to find such. For most of us, it seems that going to such a participating hair salon/barber would be the way to go. Gets business for them and helps make sure that hair is donated correctly. But where would we find such a list?

@OonaCanute Most definitely! I've been a vegetarian for over three years, and buy my dairy products from the small dairy down the road. The statistic for feeding food to food is astounding...it takes something like ten pounds of grain for every single pound of meat. Not to mention what the factory farm emissions are doing... All these small changes add up quickly. Karma is created in the moment that you make a change...or don't. Peace.

@sandynoden LOL, and all along washing it with a little Palmolive dish washing liquid would have gotten it clean, and a lot more safely. Not many ways that oil gets on clothes, so clothes detergent don't have the stuff to break up oil like dish detergent does.

Hair booms can be used in many ways. Wrapping booms in donated burlap coffee been bags reduces the minimal shedding that does come off of the booms. It's fine to have a little hair or fur come out of the booms as it's just natural fibers going into the ocean full of birds and mammals with fibers anyway. Conventional booms are made with styrofoam and fiberglass and they break up and release dangerous materials into the water, so hair and fur and fleece and feathers are much safer to work with.

they will stuff it all into a little tunnel leadiing back to the center of the earth. no, seriously, from what I understand, hair booms and matts will then go to a Hazmat hazardous waste facility. SMART!! This makes more sense than I've heard in a long time. The first time I changed the oil in my car, I forgot to get out of the way. I washed it a couple times with Tide, which didn't work, so I tried Borax twice...still not there yet, so I washed it with regular oil-free shampoo about 6-9 more times and it was STILL oily!

@bulabula1 I think that while that's lucky timing for them, they didn't make profit of the disaster, but just avoided making more losses through it, as the money from the 40% isn't touched anymore by the stock price falling. The remaining 60%, though, are.

Hey Great Idea. Im really stoked to see this is happening. I've done testes myself and have found the booms to be successful at absorbing the oil. However they should be tied together and attached to flotation devices to insure there success. They also seem to work better in calm water and even on shore. Def not to be pulled behind boats as they are still somewhat fragile. Unless maybe in burlap sacks.
@darkultra14 жыл бұрын
@AstroZombie79 and they should be. But after we have sucked the company dry for resources to clean up the oil disaster. It'll teach other companies to spend some pocket change for an extra security measure, and the workers to expect it from their boss.

The current LMRP Cap is not working. Two thirds of the oil is still escaping into the Gulf. The sooner we recognize the failure the sooner we can move on to a better solution. There should be dozens of LMRP Cap designs in process with the best designs being candidates for consideration as a replacement. I can’t understand why we are waiting. If BP had a solution they would have the well sealed by now. Here's a better solution - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHe4eKlmnsuZm5I

This is interesting but less effective than commercial booms. From an AP story: "Engineers say that a test conducted in February during an oil spill in Texas showed that commercial boom absorbed more oil and less water than hair boom."
@mynamejeff35452 жыл бұрын
Even if the hair boom is a little less effective, hair is a cheap, renewable resource that doesn't pollute the environment if it breaks apart (barring the trapped chemicals). Commercial booms are made of plastic, which is a pollutant in and of itself, and contributes to our oil depency.
@DeliaFloraMiles14 жыл бұрын
@isawanangel2 I shared it. And it is a very interesting help to clean up what is already spilled. But it wont take 2 million years, there are at least 400.000 people that think otherwise, the people that promote the Venus Project
@mmmmmvodka14 жыл бұрын
@chadpopstar That's a great idea that many people think. However, do you have a solution to make the switch so fast when so many people have cars that need oil to run and so on who doesn't have money to actually buy an all-electric car nor do they have the ability to walk or bike to their jobs depending on where they live? Because once you figure that out, it can actually happen pretty soon.

And you really think they don't know this already? It just isn't feasible, you can't begin to imagine the amount of oil out there, a lot of it is on the gulf bed already, where are you going to get enough hair to soak up all that. Just nowhere near feasible, these ideas aren't new or novel, it's all part of knowing about adsorption, which I assure you they know plenty about.
