I wash my hair twice a week and before each shampoo I soak my hair in castor oil mixed with coconut oil or almond oil, for as long as possible, at least 30 mins but up to overnight. Then wash and condition like normal. Drastically changes my thick, damaged, coarse hair. Plus regular trims and limited heat styling.

Coconut oil is a miracle I agree, but be careful to some extent. I use it as makeup remover, but I do not recommend it as a cleanser. Coconut is known for clogging pores, and is a comedogenic product. Ofcourse it is only because I have oily and skin and my pores are a little bit enlarged. People without these problems should use it if they dont have any side effects :) I do recommend almond oil tho

I like reading these comments full of love for Maria. Sometimes I feel weird about it because she's a total stranger and I don't believe in idolising celebrities at all. And how one sided it is to get to know a sense of at least a fairly large part of someone's personality via youtube yet they have no connection to you whatsoever besides a random sweet comment here and there. Her asmr pulled me out of a piece of my ptsd though, and reminded me what gentleness and soothing is, so love her lifeforce and work, I truly do.

Hi Maria. No shampoo or treatment will make a lot of difference to your hair if you are deficient in something. I know you take a supplement but the two main causes for hair loss/ breakage is lack of ferritin iron and vitamin D. I lost half my hair and after an iron infusion and intense vitamin D course it grew back even better than before xxx
@camjev08
@camjev08 7 жыл бұрын
Amanda Graydon What did you take for the infusion? I'm asking because I have problems with a few bald spots which I think is due to my thyroid disease.
@amandagraydon7189
@amandagraydon7189 7 жыл бұрын
Hi BlueOrchid.I was given an iron infusion through a cannulated drip. In the UK its called Ferinject.It has to be administered at a hospital. Its because I can't store iron. You may want to get a blood test. You are looking at your ferritin levels and not your haemoglobin levels. When your ferritin levels are very low the body takes any stores from non essential parts of the body. Ferritin is stored in the hair follicle so if it is used when ferritin stores are low the hair tends to shed. I know low ferritin is related to thyroid issues. When I have my infusion my hair pretty much stops falling out straight away. You may want to do some reading on low ferritin and hair loss. That and juicing kale and spinach daily has transformed my hair.

I've been cutting my own hair since I was 14, I don't trust anyone else (bad experiences as well). I actually started to loose my hair a couple years ago & it worried me quite a lot cause I don't do much damage to it. It wasn't until I went vegan that I noticed my hair loss stopped. What you eat plays a big role in the health of your hair, as well as drinking lots & lots of water. I also don't need all kinds of supplements anymore either, just a B12 on occasion, but I don't even think I need that cause I use nutritional yeast in most of my food which has a lot. The one hair product I can't live without is my rosewater/glycerin mist. I use it on my face throughout the day & on my hair. Keeps my skin & hair hydrated. The rose water stimulates blood flow to the hair follicle & helps it grow faster & healthier. I buy mine on ebay, the one I use is Adele rosewater & it smells wonderful, where as most others just smell like your average rose. I mix in some vegetable glycerin, a little less than 1/4 of the bottle. Not too much or it will become sticky. The glycerin is mostly for my face, it pulls moisture into the skin, but will also make your hair very soft. Sometimes I'll even mix in some essential oils & create my own serums as well.

Hey girl, a couple tips you may or may not already know. I'm a licensed cosmetologist of 16 years. Something you can add to your routine that will help tone the gold out of your new growth without using a chemical is to use a violet shampoo occasionally. Shampoo, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then rinse and finish whatever you do. My favorite is Paul Mitchel violet shampoo but there's many out there. I prefer Paul Mitchel because their violet shampoo is very purple where some others are just a touch. It won't make your hair purple, don't worry. Only do it 1-2 times a week for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. It will tone out the natural gold you have. Also, the small hairs you're noticing can be from pulling your hair up but also from using a brush on wet hair. We all do it, but your hair can stretch up to 50% more than its natural length when wet. Blonde hair does not stretch as easily. If you were to look at a brown hair and compare to a blonde under a microscope, the diameter of a blonde piece is much thinner, unfortunately causing it to be more brittle. Everything you are doing to better your hair is awesome and you are on the right track. But if you want to salvage breakage, or possibly tone some of the gold down without chemicals, grab a violet shampoo and a wide toothed pick to use on wet hair. Breakage is very normal with blonde hair. It may or may not have been the stylists fault. Generally that breakage is caused after the highlighting process over the next few days that follow. I always recommend deep conditioners for 3 nights after. However, often we get excited for new brighter hair that feels refreshed and get excited to play with it pretty immediate. That's the mistake many make. Our hair has a papilla on the inside down at the base of your hair follicle in your scalp that generates new hair growth and is composed of soft tissue. That's the only part that's active and alive. Our hair is technically "dead" the minute it grows out of your scalp. Hence the reason we try to nourish it and make it look nice. In general no ones hair naturally looks amazing because all our hair is dead the minute it leaves the scalp. The hair outside of the scalp that everyone sees has a cuticle covering it. When someone uses a chemical on their hair, no matter what the chemical, it lays the cuticle open and exposed. It's takes conditioning treatments to pack the open cuticle with nourishment and eventually it lies back down smooth. Most blondes know this phase after highlights because their hair often is described as being like "straw". The process of highlights is literally frying pigment off someone's hair. Removing pigment to go white, or blonder. Going darker on the contrary is mostly just depositing color. There's still a chemical so even color is "bad" for your hair, however people who color their hair usually love how soft their hair feels after because the color packs that open cuticle. Anyways, that's kind of a quick explanation of human hair. I absolutely LOVE "It's a 10" and use it daily. Another product you should experience if you have not is Redkin "Anti Snap". It smells absolutely amazing and after you spray the "It's a 10", you would put a few pumps of anti snap in your hands and work through your fingers, then work it all through your ends of your hair. Lastly, I've noticed in other videos you say you have a naturally oily scalp. You need to stay away from spraying too much of the "It's a 10" directly into your scalp. Instead go down a few inches. Your natural scalp oils will take care of those first few inches. It's mid shaft that starts to suffer and cause breakage where new hair meets highlighted hair. That's the areas to be most focused on. If you put a conditioner based product directly on an oily scalp or scalp that produces more oils than average, you will cause over stimulation of your sebaceous glands from in a sense "clogging" them with conditioner which is naturally oily and your oils will over produce, causing more problems with oily scalp. Hope this helps some of the issues I've seen you mention previously. 😉

Maria! I've worked in salons for almost ten years and I can tell you that if you like to highlight and are seeing damage as a result, try finding a salon or stylist who will use Olaplex or brazilian bond builder with your highlight service. These products prevent breakage when lightening and work wonders for fine hair that is prone to breakage due to coloring.

When I had bleached blonde hair... coconut oil was amazinggg for making it feel hydrated, look shiny. But you have to be careful not to get it on your face, as it is comedogenic and can give you acne. I put that on and then shampoo twice, condition as usual and then wash my face to make sure no coconut oil was left on there. Also either the Joico K-Pak Revitaluxe mask or Protein Reconstructing mask are amazing for strengthening and adding softness to bleached hair. Bed Head by TIGI also have some great products for lightened hair.

My secret for healthy shiny hair is to never use a curling iron (hurray for your bun tie), and to blow-dry briefly on a very low heat setting. Don't worry about activating the lightener,

When I'm done with my shower I don't brush my hair. I run my fingers through it. Brushing your hair while it's wet is damaging. Also, I go 3 to 4 days without washing.your hair will thank you! It grows thick and healthy. Also, I don't use flat irons or curlers. But on special occasions I do. (: I also had a bad experience at a hair salon. They basically chopped all my hair off..My hair was up to my waistline.. I almost died. So I used this horse shampoo with its conditioner and it worked amazing. Best thing ever. Now I don't ever cut it lol Thanks for your tips of cutting hair!! Maybe one day I'll get ballsy and try it lol

A quick tip Maria, I started using horse shampoo/conditioner, actual shampoo/conditioner used for horses manes that have been slightly adapted for human hair, and it's the BEST my hair has ever felt, I have softer and fuller hair and it's in much better condition after over-bleaching. Honestly the best thing I've ever used

I would also use argon oil after you dry your hair (or before using heating products when hair is dry). It's very repairing and prevents damage at the same time :)

I watched to your nail video too and I wanted to share an observation. I have a hypothyroid problem. My nails and hair are terrible--thin and brittle. This is a common problem for people with this health problem. I don't want to alarm you but only suggest that people with this combination of symptoms have their thyroid checked. Otherwise thank you so much for the helpful suggestions 😀

That John frieda spray is great!! But my hairdresser told me that because it is "heat activated" you should never go into the sun when you have used the spray. It keeps working when you are in the sun and can actually burn your hair!! Don't know if its true but it sounds legit haha

Maria I used to use all the john freida blonde products the spray shampoo and conditioner. I didn't realize my hair started looking brassy after a while. I just gave up and colored my hair dark again back to my natural color. Just be mindful of the brassy look 🙂

Fine hair here, prone to dryness from the lovely Arlington County water. Wide-toothed comb, Nexxus Humectress Luxe Leave-In Conditioner, Bed Head Control Freak. You might want to try silleeping on silk pillowcases. As for color, your hair may eventually get brassy with the spray. You've only been using it for less than a year. After two or three, you might need a color correction by a pro. I know because I did the same thing when I was your age. Now I see the best colorist in D.C., Reda at Charmed Salon, the one who fixed it. He's been written up in Washingtonian Magazine a few times, his prices are reasonable, and he is VERY careful about not over-processing. He will not bleach your hair, only work with color. Known him for 20 years and I could not find someone in New York who could do my color or cut like he does. Long story, but I've had my hair cut by some of the best in the world in my day--we're talking cuts that would have been $200 in the 80s if I had to pay for them--and his cuts work the best for me, too. He understands fine hair. People were gawking at me (in a good way!) when I came out of the salon a couple of weeks ago, no joke--and I'm 50! If you go, tell him Terri with the bird sent you.

I have extra thin hair so I have to be careful because it is easy to create damage... I use oil on it two times a week (avocado oil works best for me), I leave it for half an hour or more if I can and then wash it.I always comp it when it is conditioned (never just wet) in the shower, to protect it from breaking and I never use any heat, I don't even blow dry it.. I also put silk on it every night. I really miss using curling iron or straighting my hair but my hairdresser says that it is because of all the things I do that my hair is at its best and grows strong, keeping its color! I hope I helped anyone with hair as thin as a spider's web T T

I've just recently started using the "New" shampoo bar from Lush and it's supposed to liven up your scalp to help prevent hair loss and promote growth! It's been about a month now and I love it!! I've been losing a lot less hair and I've noticed baby hairs growing in. It makes your hair smooth and shiny but it is rather drying so I also use a good natural conditioner, Botanist hair oil for all over and Moroccan Moisture argon oil for the ends :) then I wrap it up in a lose bun and let it air dry. I want that russian hair thing!!

update pt2: I also started using Nexus protein+coconut oil hair mask after I use conditioner in the shower while I shave! I usually wash my hair every 3 days or so, so it's not too much for it to handle. My hair, especially my ends has improved sooooo much. So much shinier and softer! I'm so happy
