I have had color allergy for 20 years. I am a stylist and also love changing my look. Anyone with this knows how much of a horrible curse it is. This girl is right! "ALL" haircolor tint has ppd! Even hennas! Lighter colors and bleach has less of the ppd chemical than dark. You will have better results with going lighter. Semi and Demi permanents I feel I have a little more play with too... But keep all product off your skin! I have mastered coloring with this problem with foils, and getting washed out in a salon basin... If u shower, it will run all over your body and itch everywhere. All people coloring with an allergy proceed with caution. There really needs to be more videos like this, I had to find out tricks through a ton of trial and error. Thanks for this video.

Try elumen, I found I was allergic to all dyes but the allergy is from sodium metabisulphite in hair dye, elumen doesn’t have it and needs no test beforehand and I have had no reactions to this.

I have recently found hair colour here in Europe without any ppd (semi natural). Also, I've been colouring my hair with henna for 7 years now and never had any reaction despite my severe allergy

Great video! My daughter started having really, REALLY bad reactions on her hands about halfway through her program at Paul Mitchell. She finally had an allergy test done after she graduated and found out she’s allergic to PPD, formaldehyde, and thermasol. This was devastating because she’d just spent a year and roughly $20k on this program that’s now too dangerous for her to do. She’s totally fine now but had to get pretty much all new products to use from head to toe. Thanks for doing this video. I think it’s important for people to know!

Good day I'm allergic to even natural hair products you're absolutely right everything does have PPD even the henna . I am so allergic and it's so sad. I really want to dye my hair and I would love to do it with the foils but I don't have anyone to help me with that. I was thinking of doing hair color with the highlighting cap do you think this will work? I even wash my hair with the cap on? Do you know if anyone's ever done this technique . Thank you so much

OMG THANKS : my colorist just paints the dye on scalp at the point my scalp turns dark . When it's time to go the the sink afterwards I pull out lots of hair. I know shedding is normal but I will stop going to the salon and will buy Herbalink it is a natural less toxic hair dye. Salon stuff is good but I suspect still toxic

depending on what you are getting done, it is "normal" to paint dye on the scalp. but definitely do whatever you feel is best for you! thank you for watching and for your comment!!

I have been bleaching and dying my hair my whole life but didn’t develop an allergy until I dyed it black about 2 years ago. It’s so frustrating because I’ve struggled since then to get out of it. I recently had my friend (who is in hair school) process it so that I could just use color conditioners (I do not react to those) but it’s sooo messy and annoying. Now I’m considering going to see someone to take my hair back to its natural color and just leave it alone from there. This has been such a frustrating process and I have not been able to find any videos about other people with hair dye allergies so I’m grateful I was able to find this! I sat down and looked through all of the ingredients in ever hair dye I’ve used since the allergy started (I’ve tried them all at this point) and I believe the only common ingredient in all of them is Ethanolamine so I stay away from anything containing that one ingredient.

its great that you are doing your own research on what might be triggering your allergy. yes it is very frustrating and it is common to develop it out of nowhere. im sorry your going through this but i think you might be best just growing your hair out to its natural color. it will be a long process but it will be the safest route.

I became allergic to hair dye 3 years ago. I used to use dark colours to cover greying hair at home. I had a reaction the last two times I dyed my hair and what I did was totally quit dying my hair and decided to embrace my natural hair colour. I haven't touched dye since. It's not worth the risk. I'm 48. I used to dye my hair usually every 3 weeks for decades without any issues. Once you start getting issues it takes all the fun out of dying your hair. Now my hair is natural and it's not any worse than when I was dying my hair.

Same situation, always colored my hair from my teens onward. Mid 40s mostly grey,and allergic to anything darker than a level 6 bad!!. I look awful w light hair btw. Only thing ive found so far thats decent and leaves my hair feeling good is IGK color mask in bella brown ,and Kenra color condition (not nearly as soft but covers ok) . They tone the grey ,but i do have to use it 2-3x a week. Which is a hassel.

I’m allergic to hair color. I used to color my hair when I was younger then I took a brake for a few years and then decided I wanted blond and red highlights and I woke up the next morning my eye was swollen shut I had horrible blisters on my scalp, ears, and neck. This happened when I was 17, I’m 22 now and I’ve been wanting to do something new with my hair but I have no clue how to find a stylist that I can trust to work with my hair.

Since you're young and likely don't have grey you can try hair extensions for a different colour. They can blend almost anything together with the right extensions.

What about for dark hair? What do you use for brown hair ? I have a horrific reaction to hair dye and it goes all down my back , arms, legs , face and don’t even touch the skin 😞 my lymph nodes swell to the point of bursting !! Please help !!!

Hi! Great video. Have you tried purple/blue food dye and conditioner for toning the hair? I'm allergic to hair dye and many hair care products and this works for me when I need to tone my hair. Always patch test though!! Hope this is helpful to someone

She is allergic to color, so I don't use any color. She is not allergic to bleach so I only use bleach. If she was allergic to bleach I would not be able to use it on her without it causing an allergic reaction. There isn't a way I could rinse it out to not cause a reaction... Hair lays on the head, scalp, neck... It would give her a reaction even if it was washed out.

I'm not sure if it's just irritation or a mild allergy, but I've noticed my scalp usually gets itchy and stings when I use permanent dye on it. I'm considering trying a scalp protector and possibly taking 24 hour Allegra as well beforehand the next time I have to touch up my roots to prevent such a reaction from occurring again.

do you know Elumen from the Brand Goldwell it is a physical hair color not a Chemical like usual, i'm very allergic hair colours my complete head is swollen but this color called Elumen I can use , use it now many years cause I prefer black hair on me . it works very well

Every time I dye my hair I noticed my scalp gets itchy/burning and my lympth nodes behind the ear get enlarged. I went for a patch test and although I'm not allergic to PPD I'm allergic to Nickel. I dyed my hair with a product that was confirmed not to have any Nickel in it but noticed 2 days later I still have a lympthnode appear. My dermologist is a bit lost as he is not sure why my lympthnodes are be enlarged if no Nickel is present? Any help?

it's possible you are allergic to nickel AND another ingredient in the nickel-free hair color.. those are my only thoughts. if you figure it out please let us know! the more awareness the better!

I have an anaphylaxis allergy/reaction to hair dye. I have been really desperate to find something that works! Plus I need something to cover my grey and I have dark hair. I just tried something today that turned my grey to orange. My hair dresser puts in an anti-itch additive which totally stops the itch on my head. So, people that just get that itch could try that. If you find a product that covers grey, please pass it on. Your mom is the first person I have talked to that has a more severe allergy like me. I get nauseous, face swelling, dizzy,rash head to toe and my throat closes up. It feels air-Bourne. I am desperate and I really do not want to be grey. Help! If you find anything that works for your mom, please talk about it. Thanks

I love my blonde highlights but have developed a hair color allergy! I can't use purple shampoo either! I am so bummed and empathize with your mom! Had my hair colored yesterday (was hoping I was only allergic to something in the shampoo) and before I got home from the salon I was itchy all over. Washed my hair again last night. Still itchy today, just took a benadryl, fingers crossed!

so sorry. the only shampoo my mom doesnt seem to be allergic to is suave (go figure) and i cannot tone/gloss or glaze her after the highlights. i also cannot use highlights that have any toning properties in them either. its tricky. i hope you find a stylist that takes your allergy serious.

In my late 20s I developed allergic reaction to bleach and when I bleach my hair it gets so bad I break out in hives my bottom of my feet and my hands itch swell and whole body gets red that’s not scary part!!! Scary part is when my throat starts itching and feel a burning sensation but I make sure I calm myself down but have not used bleach since that symptom occurred.. but I’m ready to do my roots so hopefully I can do this

I m 23 i am developing greys... I have nasal allergy and my blood serum ige test shows that i have high amout of immunoglobulin that is antibodies and that's the reason of my nasal allergies.... Now what to do? My mom has prurigo nodularis so her derma had suggested her cuticulor hair color which claims to be ppd and ammonia free. But has othwr chemicals and it is mentioned in the package that use it with caution or do a patch test . What should i do?

I've colored blonde highlights on my channel with coffee. it helped to tone the hair but it did not hold (washed out easily) and was not black. I currently don't know of anything to safely recommend to color your hair black without an allergic reaction. If i come across anything, I will definitely make a video on it!!

u can use henna, its organic u just need to search on what to add to it to get different colors because henna alone will give you a red/orange color.

I didn't use color. I only use bleach. Be careful sometimes henna's do not react well with bleach.

i would not use the cap either. the left over color on the ends of your hair can cause an allergic reaction.

no. because the hair dye will still be on your hair and even when you wash it out it will still be on the hair and it can cause a reaction.

She's using hair bleach in this video NOT hair color. If you want blonde and aren't allergic to bleach this is one option. Do a patch test.

If I have so much of hair colour on my head like you showing on this video I would die. I use only herbal black colour, one teaspoon or less and brush on in regrows or places where I can see grey. I have to do almost weekly as I am not able to cover greys in one go. Also I am taking non stop allergy tablets , and still I have rushes on my body and skalp. My allergy developed about 10 years ago and no one can help. Also my daughter is in this some situation , she have land up in hospital during night after first hair colour in saloon. There is no remedy for this in 21 century yet.

I am completely gray and became allergic to hair dye when I was about 60 years old. The solution I have is for someone to lift the sections of my hair and brush on the hair dye as close to the scalp as possible without touching the scalp… I repeat without touching the scalp! Then I just wrap foil around The painted part .....so it doesn’t drip onto my scalp. My hair is all painted and Scalp does not have any hair dye on it . I keep it on for 25 minutes and then I stick my head under the fast , strong running faucet and wash it all out quickly. The hair dye does not have time to soak into my scalp. It all works out fine. I hope this helps you.

I have a question I have seborrhic dermatitis which is like an eczma. I want to dye my hair and cut it, but I'm scared and embarrassed especially to cut it because since I studied cosmetology but didnt finish I know about contamination and all of that. Anyway how can I approach a stylist and tell them to be gentle when they brush my hair because any pulling hurts and also since I have my own shears and combs can I ask them if they can use mine to rule out any contamination?

you can definitely bring your own and ask them to use yours if that makes you feel more comfortable. don't feel uncomfortable to tell them that you have a tender scalp. that's totally fine and common! i can't speak for all stylists but we've seen it all! that is not out of the ordinary. I hope you find the right stylist for you. keep looking until you find someone you are comfortable with.

I have this allergy & its so insanely severe ! I haven’t colored my hair in 4 years because it got so bad I never touched my hair again.
