I'm 60 years old and I used Crown Royal growing up. I think Blue Magic hit the scene around the late 80s early 90s because when I had my daughter in the early 90s Blue Magic was a mainstay. Sulfur 8 never went anywhere because it is medicated and good for scalp issues. In fact, it works really good for dandruff and fungus on the scalp. Blue Magic is really good for retaining moisture, I use it after I wash my hair put in a leave-in, curl cream/gel to lock in the moisture. It keeps my high porosity, type 4 hair moisturized and soft for days.

I went natural after HS in 2015. From my prospective, everyone was using DIY whipped Shae butter, coconut oil, olive oil, grease, flax seed gel, Aloe Vera, and then rice water. Literally grew my hair down my back with the L.C.O method, hot oil treatments, and cheap beauty supply goodies or whatever was on sale at Target. OUT OF NO WHERE there was a bunch of white woman doing curly cuts (Diva cuts or something like that, everyone was getting the heart shape and really obsessed with wet look or wash and go's) and that's when I noticed the whole "no oils or butters. it clogs your pours blah blah". I didn't listen or care, because my hair was long and my routine was simple. But It really started to rub me the wrong way because I remember being teased or called "Greasy" in school because my hair was down my back but my mom used grease/oils. Now you got white girls sleeping in oil, selling growth oils and all the curly haired girls dealing with dry hair and have to big chop again because ya'll decided to listen to them. Nothing wrong with people oiling their hair I just thought it was crazy because their hair is already naturally oily, hence why they feel the need to wash all the time. A person with straight hair and healthy sebum production doesn't really need to oil their hair. Yet everyone was so impressed, "omg Argon Oil, weee" and bought their products and programs lol. For some reason black woman are so scared of water, wash day, and prefer to hide their hair. Not me. The crazy part is the more you do it, the "easier" it gets. Like when I first went natural my hair was kinda confused and always tangled. Now it just kinda clumps up naturally with just water. Grease/oils also really help with frizz and that was my main dislike about straightening my hair. Honestly if you don't like the weighed down feeling I would just braid/bun it up and think of it as a protective style until wash day. If you was heavy handed and its too much to handle that's literally what shampoo is for (for some reason everyone scared of shampoo too). Pro tip, put a spoon full of grease in a glass dish and heat it in the microwave, its easier to apply and prevents you from using too much instead of just scooping it out the jar. I sleep with my hair open, I don't really care for bonnets. I go on walks/runs outside so idk if the air/sun helps but by the time my hair is dry its no longer "greasy" or weighed down, Its just moist and wavy from being in a braid. CRAZY PART about people complaining about "it weighs down my hair" be the same people that cake on all this damn gel and curl creams. Please make it make sense lol. I actually started to use Grease again religiously because of Afrikanhairgod. All his clients have thicc healthy hair and he pretty much only uses water, leave in, and grease most of the time. To this day his salon uses beauty supply products not "Salon" products. If you want help and a good laugh, I would def check out his channel.

In the past, hair grease made my scalp itch like crazy. I would only use it as the LCO method, if I ever used it again. If you use grease you have to use a clarifying shampoo each month.

I was tcb grease using girl before they changed it in the 2000s( I think ) but now oddly enough blue magic sells one similar to the original tcb. I never liked the original blue magic bc it was just toooo heavy so I now use the yellow or green blue magic. I know they say people with scalp issues should not use grease like that but I found the opposite to be true with my younger daughter’s hair. I found that her hair loves to clarified with sulfate shampoos and greased afterwards and when I switch up she pays dearly for it. I have had the most problems when her hair got too dry or when her diet was off. Also I heard Bronner Brothers grease is blacked owned so you might like that one. As for doo gro I say give it a try it’s not bad.

I still use grease but I shampoo twice a week with clarifying then moisture shampoo. I use a leave in and then grease my scalp and seal with grease. My hair came back from the dead. I deep condition once a week. I don't use a sister conditioner after shampoo. I just use a leave in.

I was shocked to see Dax Kocatah (scalp issues) on Amazon and realized everything old is new again. I use a little bit of Blue Magic on my hair in the winter, a little goes a long way and daily use is not necessary. I used to use Allways Natural Indian Hemp hair grease but it seems to have been discontinued, I really liked it didn't have a heavy scent.

I love all the old hair care products. I never listen to KZbin about hair care. This generation can tell me nothing about hair.

I’ve had scalp issues for a few years now, I suspect from over using clarifying shampoos actually and using the wrong type of oils on my scalp. I learned that the mineral oil and petroleum used in old school greases are non comedogenic. I’ve started using sulfur 8 on my scalp and it’s been amazing it has not only relieved my scalp itch but also keeps my scalp from acting up again until the next wash day. Once my hair is longer I plan to use blue magic for my strands.

I use oil now, on the hair only not the scalp. Oils and grease on my scalp directly gives me dermatitis

I only use small amounts of Blue Magic only on the hair itself when I flat iron. My routine for my short hair is shampoo, conditioner and that’s it. I don’t put grease on my scalp and my hair looks extremely healthy. I’m not wearing my hair out as I’m still growing it back from relaxer damage.

Blue Magic is it. Grease and water works as good as some of the products out here now for natural hair. Wash and grease your hair, plait it and let it air dry then style it. I have natural hair and hair grease works well whether I am wash and go or straightening my hair.

I've definitely returned to old school hair grease! 😃 I regret for abandoning it. 😔 I use the Blue Magic Hair Food mixed with Africa's Best Liquid Mayonnaise for an ultimate detangling, moisturizing hair experience! 😃

I grew up on Royal Crown growing up and I fondly see it in Walmart stores today. I love trying new or revised products but I am holding back as I remember as a child it never helped the growth of my hair length.

I’ve been using it for 6 months and the moisture retention and length retention is awesome. Shampoo every 2-3 weeks, leave in, blue magic. I started mixing Chebe powder in my Blue Magic 3 months ago and my detangling is minimal, and single strand knots are gone. I’m averaging and inch per month. Everyone is asking if I’m supplementing with extensions. NO! Length and volume is off the chain.
