This is me since I was really young like 16. I went to a trichologist at abt 21. What I have learned abt my scalp 1. Stress/anger 😬 is the main culprit that flares my scalp. 2. Lack of exercise = less blood flow to the scalp. 3. I wear braids but I wash all hair with Apple cidar vinegar & my hair too. 4. Whatcha eat. However I still stand by stress & anger etc. I let go of certain (stressors ppl and deeds) & literally my hair started growing back. Thank God

I had this- turned out my iron levels were very low - got my iron levels to a normal level and my dermatologist prescribed me with 5 % minoxidil with 1% tretinoin and also a corticosteroid and my hair in that section has grown back fully and is even longer than it used to be. There is hope! ❤

Ladies my biggest advice if you're having scalp issues is to see a dermatologist that specializes in hair loss! Make sure the dermatologist does a biopsy on your scalp. I went to a dermatologist for years and she just "treated my condition" with a prescribed anti-itch oil. She didn't have a clue because she never did a biopsy. Found a dermatologist that specialized in hair loss and she did a biopsy and found I had CCCA. Now I was finally able to get the correct treatment. Having a dermatologist treat your scalp without a biopsy is like having a doctor treat you without bloodwork. They'd just be guessing or assuming what they THINK the problem is. Biopsy! Biopsy! Biopsy 😊

I am a Caucasian woman 67 years old. I, like a lot of other women, started losing my hair during the pandemic. I went to my dermatologist and she prescribed topical & oral medications. Over a year later and after trying a few different types of medications, nothing helped. She said the only thing left to try is steroid shots into my scalp. I have decided not to try that as I sometimes react to steriods. This is effecting many women now. If you are looking for it you see it. I am Hypo Thyroid, have been for many years,, but did not have this pre-pandemic. I love your channel and have watched you for a few years now. You speak the truth and are very skilled and talented. My mom developed this in her late 50s. I researched and found that pumpkin seed oil can help with this. I found someone who made a pumpkin seed oil blend and I SWEAR to you! Right hand to God her hair started filling back in in about 1 year, the redness and inflammation stopped, and the patch filled in. Hers was bad that bold spot was the size of a ramekin bowl.

When my daughter was around 15, she started noticing her part line was widening. Then she noticed a thin quarter sized balding spot in another area in her scalp. My daughter has very healthy long hair but these things we’re taking place all of a sudden but it must have started very gradually until visually she noticed something was wrong and also we were going to our regular hairdresser every 2 weeks for years. I immediately took my daughter to the dermatologist and she was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. She was given cortisone scalp injections and the doctor told her she would start to notice peach fuzz hair growth in those thinning bald spots in about 6 weeks. And sure enough her hair grew back in those spots and she only got maybe 4 injections. My daughter has natural thick healthy hair but I understand this condition can cause a lot of stress on the sufferer. I pray this young lady in the video and others who have been diagnosed with Alopecia can have good results like my daughter.

It's good that you are talking about CCCA. I had never heard of it before I was diagnosed with it. There should be a lot more awareness about this type of alopecia so that we don't ignore it. After being diagnosed I started to research, and was terrified about what I saw thinking that would happen to me and not understanding that treatment would prevent the type of loss that I was seeing. I have CCCA it was diagnosed in Dec 2022. I also went to the dermatologist as soon as my scalp started acting different than normal, and the CCCA was caught in the very early stages. I'm taking oral medication and have a scalp solution as well. Thankfully all the redness, itching, and extreme shedding have stopped, and density is returning. I have a lot of hair and it's kind of long so most of the damage isn't visible to other people. I also have SLE so I know to go have things checked out if something is wrong.

I have CCCA and my doctor advised to wash my hair weekly and don't put a lot of direct oils on my scalp. I did about 4 rounds of shots and once all of the inflammation was gone, I made sure to keep up with my weekly washes. It has really made a difference with CCCA symptoms. I no longer have the itchiness or pain. I oil my scalp twice a week. The second time will usually be before wash day and i limit the amount of oils I'm using. I always shampoo and give myself random hair massages. The biggest thing is to catch it early and come up up a consistent plan. I can't make it go away but i can prevent it from getting worse.

Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA). You're correct, my Dermatologist said there are no definitive studies linking it to relaxers because it occurs in women who have never had them. I stopped getting relaxers because it's the only "harsh" thing i was doing. She put me on 2 months of antibiotics to stop the inflammation. She also stated that it was cool that i was using tea tree shampoo bc its basically like using a medicated shampoo. I asked that a biopsy be done not just a visual examination of my scalp. I'm still working to get the follicles stimulated in the areas effected. Overall my scalp is healthy again and my hair is growing. The goal is to get the inflammatory response shutoff. I have other health goals but my scalp will benefit bc my focus on reducing inflammation in my body as a whole.

You know what causes inflammation....trauma and stress and Black American women are some of the most traumatized and stressed people in the world.I grew up in a black-majority country and the differences are very noticeable to me. I knew women who had hair down their back and women who preferred to wear their head shaved bald. some had relaxers and some had natural hair. There was limited judgment about how they chose to wear their hair. Initially locs where judged but by the 2000s locs became accepted. My American sibling was explaining food deserts to me. I've been to Nigeria, Thailand and Italy and everyone buys fresh fruits and vegetables every day. I live in the UK and half our supermarkets are fresh food. In France everyone buys fresh bread every day. When I travelled to America...I noticed the average supermarket having less and less fresh fruits, bread, vegetables, fish, meat and poultry. Everything is highly processed and highly preserved! I'm not even starting on the fragrance in toiletries that gives me allergic reactions.

@@misslady4910 Yeah unfortunately after about 10 years of relaxers the damage was already done to my poor follicles. they always used a relaxer that was too strong for my hair and scalp. they were supposed to use a fine sensitive relaxer but they would look at my tight 4c and pull out the strong and leave it on until it was bone straight. I had relaxers and chemical ( non- professional colour/ curly perm)treatment from aged 8 to to age 38. So we are looking at 30 years of damage on hair that was already weak, fine, dehydrated and dry.

Finally, I have an answer! Thank you for that information. I’m headed to the Dermatologist. I noticed the breakage at the crown in December and by March it was worse, the breakage spread and there was balding. After all of those months there was no improvement. I cried but I grabbed the scissors and chopped off my hair so I could see the extent of the damage. The problem went from ear to ear. My PCP offered no reasonable explanation nor solution so I figured I’d fix it myself. He suggested it was the hair relaxers and/or menopause, his go to answer for everything. Quit playing, I wore my hair relaxed for 35+ years without a problem. After I finished butchering my hair and I took a picture of the area I realized it may be a fungus so I used Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo. It slowed the balding but the hair in that spot is still troubled. It grows very very slowly and the hair is very fragile, the splitting ends are relentless. Finally, I have an answer! You are the greatest. I’m scheduling my Dermatology appt. Thank you again. NICOLE.

I had this awhile back. I would go to a dermatologist to get steroid shots once a month. It worked until the pandemic happened. She also prescribed Clobetasol propionate Topical. Once the world stopped, I wasn’t able to get treatment and my hair grew back. I now use Nizoral and Olaplex when washing now. I changed my diet and started making my own Ayurvedic oils and sprays. So far, so good.

I just discovered your channel today! I was diagnosed in November 2023 with both Androgenic Alopecia AND CCCA! Luckily, a friend referred me to an African American dermatologist who was able to diagnose me right away and put me on medications that ABSOLUTELY worked! I would recommend anyone who is experiencing unexplained shedding, bald spots, or thinning to seek medical attention asap because like you said in the video, waiting too long will cause permanent damage (which happened to a very close friend of mine). The doctor said the Androgenic Alopecia was hereditary and the CCCA, in my case, was most likely caused by stress and hormones (due to my age). She prescribed oral supplements and 2 topical oils. Within 2 months, I could see phenomenal results, BUT..... the downside was I had hair growing EVERYWHERE! And no woman wants facial hair so I had to take care of that! I hope this helps someone reading this because we don't worry much about losing our hair until it happens.♥

This is me each time I put relaxer in my hair. This is the reason I'm natural for 9 years now and my hair grows just fine in that spot now. But, I know if I put the relaxer in again, after about 2 months, the hair will start to break off in that spot there again. No more relaxed for me!

This was me too. I wonder why the relaxer does this and will it become a problem again in the future? I too stopped getting relaxers because each time, 2 months sounds about right for me too I can’t remember exactly bc it has been over 20 years 😅, my hair would start breaking in the crown. Inflammation is caused by a lot of things. I'm not a doctor but I would say that a lot of black women do not get enough vitamin D in the blood via ☀️ or supplements which is the best thing to help with inflammation.

@@brittanymilgan Iron as well. I wasn't regularly stressed though. I had extreme stress to the point I was forgetting things, names, where I had placed stuff, whether I had eaten. However, through God I overcame that stress and put my cares in God's hands. Now my hair is thicker, and is starting to slowly grow back on my crown. This is so important to raise awareness of CCCA especially in Black women. My mom had it an unfortunately never got treatment and never grew her hair back. Because of her story I was dilligent and at the first sign of thinning in my scalp I got it checked out and caught my CCCA early. Its genetic even though our hair care practices make the situation worse. You need meds to bring the inflammation down and then can use good hair practices to keep things in check. I have learned alot but just glad I caught it early.

Wow! After all of these years, this one video has literally given me an idea of what I am going through. I have been suffering from crown breakage for many years. I also have a small patch of har loss in the same place as your client. I have fibroids so I am now making connections. It causes anemia so I believe that has contributed greatly to my chronic hair loss. I have visited 2 different dermatologists and two trichologists and all have noticed thinness, but said that they don't see it as a problem. I know my hair so I know when there is a problem, and when there isn't one. This is proof that your body speaks to you in various ways. I was just diagnosed with CCCA last year. I was concerned about why my hair in the center would grow and then break. So I looked up different types of alapica in black women . I went to an African American dermatologist and she tested my scalp and started the steroid injections. I've had wonderful growth in the center of my head.

Thank you for sharing as I had breakage in the same 2 spots a year ago. I went to the dermatologist and they said I had inflammation of the scalp & a mix of traction alopecia and alopecia areata. I was prescribed steroid injections to reduce the inflammation of my scalp on those 2 bald spots. Thankfully, I was told my hair will make a full comeback and that it was a great thing that I came in early because it is reversible when you seek treatment sooner than later. Hope my comment helps anyone else that has experienced a similar issue. ❤ Side note: Applying raw Aloe Vera to my scalp as a quick hair mask & then rinsing it out really helps to soothe my scalp! 🥒

@@demi5378 Yes it did! Those two small bald patches fully grew in. No more bald spot. It started to grow in as “peach fuzz” as the dermatologist called it. 😌 Today, those 2 areas is beginning to grow out in length. I have to be patient as it catches up to the length of the rest of my hair with consistent trims. Also to add, I just gave myself a trim 3 days ago, courtesy of Deeper Than Hair’s “how to trim your hair at home” video. It was pretty easy. Hair is beginning to feel healthy again all over! 🩷🙏🏾

My doctor said she wasn’t referring me to dermatology because I’m dealing with stress and anxiety plus I have a vitamin D deficiency and all of that is contributing to the hair loss in my crown area. I have this condition and it seems to have been brought on when the doctors put me on some strong medication to stop my lung from collapsing. Although I did go to dermatologist within a few years of symptoms starting, unfortunately there came a point when the dermatologist I was using told me not to worry about it because I had plenty of hair. Well, eventually I had to find another doctor because I continued to have problems. By the time I had enough and found a new doctor that would take me seriously, she said it was a shame I didn’t get treatment earlier, because I now had damage from the scarring. I WISH, WISH, WISH I knew more about this condition when I was younger. I would have done things so much differently. Knowledge is power. We need to educate ourselves and other women about this condition, so thank you for this video.

I was diagnosed with this condition but only after being misdiagnosed for years with earlier derm doc visits. By the time i found a good dermatologist the condition was much worse.. even with treatment ive lost a significant amount of hair to the point i have to wear hair pieces all the time. Im really considering shaving my head because i feel like its really a lost cause at this point.😢 The amount of $$$ I've spent on docs, meds, shampoos, creams etc is insane.

Yes, my stylist was “drama Queenish” and would cut it all off to match with the quickness. She would have passed out if I would have said just leave it uneven and let it catch up. She was a bit toxic. Happy that I finally left her.

I'm soooo glad I seen your vid. My hair has come out in the crown of my head just like this. I have hypothyroidism. Went to the dr, my levels were off and I'm perimenopausal. So, I'm considering just doing a big chop and starting over. My hair has stopped shedding and breaking thank God. I'm just sad that I'll have to cut it all off..🥺😭

I have that, I think. But I'm allergic to ... whatever Rogaine is, so I have to use fluocinonide, which is a topical liquid solution that can only be prescribed. I wouldn't try a home remedy only because my hair follicles are on borrowed time and don't have time to waste waiting to see results. Go see a dermatologist IMMEDIATELY when you notice a patch of hair is shorter than the others. It's not your imagination. GO!!!

I was diagnosed with CCCA at least 10 years ago. I believe mine was a combination of genetics that was exacerbated by constanty pulling on my hair in the middle from wearing afro puffs. I began by getting steroid shots to stop the sores and inflammation. People should keep in mind that you should not use anything that will increase blood flow to the area. My doctor was clear that i could not use anything like rogaine bc rogaine works by increasing blood flow to the scalp and increased blood flow means more inflammation. I would disagree with any rubbing, manipulation or medicines that are geared towards blood flow. Once i left my hair alone, began applying prescribed clobetasol propionate, and taking iron and vitamin D, my scalp has been much better. I still have permanent thinning and some crown hair loss but it hasnt gotten worse. Lastly, do NOT take any of the B vitamins. Before i knew better i was trying to take a b complex to increase blood flow and grow my hair back and it set my condition on fire. Remember, while still dealing with inflammation symptoms you cannot do or take things that increase blood flow to the area.

Yet all these influencers are telling people to massage their scalp with a certain rosemary oil..... I went to see a trichologist and they stopped the inflammation topically with no rubbing or manipulation or oil.

Everything she is saying and what the young lady are classic symptoms of ccca. I have had scalp injection, clobetasol to control flare ups, antibiotics for flare ; I am currently using metformin 10% foam along with minoxidil . My area comes grows back in and then falls out ; I believe stress is a huge part of why it falls out again. At my last appointment my Dr.noticed little bumps on my scalp and tested me for fungus ; it was negative but prescribed selenium sulfide to help with any possible bacteria .As of now I am starting to see little fine hair resurfacing in the affected area. This was a good video. She mentioned fibroids. I had fibroids and had to have fibroid embolization. Remember fibroids causes massive bleeding with your cycle or irregular cycles. I was very anemic and found anemia causes hair loss. Please attention. I lost so much hair and after surgery my hair is growing back. Stress was also a factor.

I have non scarring alopecia. I do not manipulate my natural hair. My derm gives me injections & prescription level minoxidil. Ladies, when you sense ANYTHING off about your scalp see a doctor. Don’t wait; waiting makes it worse.

use homemade clove water on troubled areas daily for natural hair and weekly for permed hair. follow up regularlywith homemade oil with cloves, ginger, red onion, garlic and aloe vera to lock in moisture on double boil for 20mins. sift thru stocking and add a few drops of peppermint oil to mask the onion and garlic smell. in 3 weeks you should start seeing peach fuzzy on the trouble area.(im 59yo and with 4c hair. I've had sever breakage in my crown all my life except when i use products with t-tree to reduce inflammation. Cloves work the same to reduce inflammation. your scalp with thank you. i started this regime 3 months ago after cutting hair 2 in short. now hair 6 inches long, thicker, thriving and no shedding. my hair likes alma or almond oil as coconut and olive oil makes my hair very frizzy and dry) jaimaca black castor oil caused my hair to shed alot. I avoid it like the plague!

Low iron is a key as well in alopecia. My daughter had it yet. I did some research on it and I found out low iron can be a key. I asked her dermatologist, and she said yes. I had her iron her check. It was definitely low. They put her on iron pills and her hair started growing back.

When you said fungal, my first thought was how us black girls like to let deep conditioner marinate in our hair either for hours or over night. Or how we like to let our hair air dry and how that can take hours even days because we want to avoid heat damage. Fungal infections almost always come from a wet environment that's getting no air circulation. Has anyone ever considered this as a possible cause?

The fungus that grows on the scalp is not normally the fungus that grows on inanimate objects that are wet like wood. This fungus is seborrheic dermatitis which is triggered by autoimmune compromise

In 2010, a jealous little salon girl cut off all of my hair to match my crown breakage. I was devastated. Haven't been back to a salon since. This was at The Jon Atchison Salon in New York which is a fine salon but the particular stylist with the initials J.J., PLEASE stay away from!

My sister did it to me too. She was supposed to give me a trim of 1 in and she ended up cutting off 3.5in -4 in of length, claiming she was trying to get close to my breakage length in my crown area. But that was unnecessary to make it even. I didn't even notice b/c I was tired but when she was done, I saw it and was pissed. I felt like she did it to make my hair shorter than hers. I haven't gotten my length back yet. You can't even trust your own family.
