A grandma here :)! After a bad salon relaxer episode, I decided to teach myself to press my hair. That was about 30 years ago. Eventually I found a soft press was my ticket. I grew my hair out thick and almost to my waist. Never had length past arm pit before. Then about 12 years ago I discovered natural hair care. After about 5 years of trying many different methods, tools and products my hair slowly became thin and mostly neck length (Fine 4b/c) which was my fault for doing so much. In the last few years, I did very little past the basics and I'm now finally seeing some gains. I just started using heat again and see less hair loss already. Your journey is inspiration for me. Thank you for a great video!

I want to be a straight hair natural because my hair is fine, my twist outs never have body, but when it’s silk press it looks like I have a relaxer.

I heard that roller sets are the best way to wear curls as opposed to twist outs or wash and gos because unfortunately Ive heard these styles can also damage your hair also.

How so? I heard it may be because people think their ends are okay but really they need a trim. I try to keep my hair trimmed but i need twist, i sweat too much to be a straight natural 😂.

From what I hear everything damages our hair, especially fine hair

twist outs are perfectly fine. most things will damage your hair if not done properly

Love this info, I am trying the straight natural routine along with roller sets , my hair maintains the moisture ,and I wrap it almost every night. If I'm lazy and don't wrap my hair, I sleep on a silk pillowcase. There's hardly any shed hair when I shampoo, and I'm loving that benefit too!

I wish I could be a straight hair natural but I work out too much. My hair gets wet at least 4 days a week. I started wearing the glueless wigs and keep loose cornrows under them. It’s the only way I can keep my hair looking like anything.

This is my lifestyle right here and the reason why i think straight natural would be too much for me. I do braids or just a wash and go!

@@uyiomere1114 How is that working for you? I'm a straight natural and I hate that I can't sweat because it will make my hair revert. It's the only thing that has made me consider relaxer.

@@tracyc.1005 hey! it does well at keeping the front sweat free, less so the back. but i workout in my basement so you may have better luck in a gym w overhead fans

How do you maintain moisture with your hair stretched?
@Growingtowaistlength

Honestly most of the moisture happens in my wash process from my conditioner to my leave in conditioner. Because my strands are straight I’m able to retain moisture longer. Maybe once a week or every other week. I’ll use a light weight moisturizer followed by a light weight oil

You could periodically use a light serum/ serum leave-in… you can also scritch and preen to help redistribute natural oil (sebum) from scalp to hair

@Growingtowaistlength Thank you so much! I noticed I retain much more length when my hair is straightened, so straight natural is my new journey!

Do you only wash your hair once a month?
@Growingtowaistlength

I base it on what my hair needs. Usually it's once a month. But there are times when it's more. But I only silk press once a month.

@ZipporahK Gotcha. I wish I could stretch my washes to a month. I think it would be much healthier for my hair strands but my scalp starts to smell at the week and a half mark.🤢 So gotta wash weekly.

@cfoster6804 have you tried using an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse before your shampoo? It helps your hairs pH as well as your scalp. It will help your scalp stay healthier without as much washing. (Dry shampoo helps too.)
