Why doesn’t anyone talk about texture when it comes to the feel (how heavy the hair strand is) and look (how naturally shiny it is) such as coarse, wiry, silky, cottony. You can have the same curl pattern as someone but have a different texture. 4a with silky texture and a 4a with cottony texture will look and act differently. I have HIGH density 3c hair but my hair is silky in texture so it looks & behaves differently than high density 3c with a wiry texture. Some naturals say they have multiple textures throughout their heads. Never see anyone talk about this.

YESSSSSSS I WAS JUS DEBATING WITH SB IN A COMMENT SECTION ABOUT DIS RIGHT HEREEEEE, im so happy im not the only one dat thinks like this bc i feel like its important because for the longest i thought i could make my hair silky n make my curls naturally clump like the typical 2a-3a hair. i was using soooo many products n then i jus come to realize that my hair texture jus isnt like that. i wish it was sooo bad cuz i jus wish i could get shine n definition w/o haveing to do a 2 hr "wash n go"🤣 ppl with silky hair also seem to get less single strand knots and their hair is easier to detangle bc when they hair jus so soft n silky so the brush slips through they hair bc its so silky yk? i also realized that they curls naturally clump n they hair soaks up product really nice so its real easy to detangle n glide through so their hair is easily managed

"Frizz" as I know it, pertains to strands of hair separating or raising from each lock, or group of curls, resulting in puffiness around the remaining hair. Sort of like when you brush against knitted mohair. Shrinkage on the other hand, is when the curls draw up closer together, much in the way that a Slinky toy does.

Can you give some tips for us Naturals that don't have that full thick head of hair? Some of us have fine strands and thin density naturally. I hear those of us with this hair type will have a harder time gaining a certain amount of length. I've been thinking about doing cassia obovata. Hydrolyzed proteins work well but I need something that will build up on my strands a bit more to thicken them up. I'd do henna but don't want any color pay off. And I like how cassia wears off eventually. Any tips from anyone on how else I can increase the diameter of my strands to reinforce them would be greatly appreciated! I'm 4b4c, fine strands, thin to medium density, high porosity with mostly o curls.
@bbappzz98
@bbappzz98 6 жыл бұрын
have you tried watching youtubers with fine hair strands? and I can say that at least for people who don't live in south asia, it is hard to find henna that will actually dye your hair if you have black hair. I've tried twice and the most I got was a reddish tint in the sunlight. my friend was dying her black hair a reddish brown colour (it had developer and colour mixed together and developer contains bleach or an alternative) and I had to put a lot on her hair because it wasn't lifting the colour. I went in about five times recoating her hair with the dye, and when I was tired, I used the rest for my hair as highlights, my hair still looks black and her hair looks reddish brown when the light hits it indoors. so don't be afraid of diy or natural products that can "dye" hair if you have black hair, it is very hard to lift your colour unless you bleach your hair beforehand.
@The.Whoever

@@bbappzz98 Lately I've come across some ladies with my hair type but none have really delved into how to increase the diameter of their strands. But I'll keep looking. And when it comes to henna, that's what I mean. I don't even want that reddish tint in the sunlight. Although I may end up doing henna and indigo further down the line. Right now I'm just going to dip my toes in with a cassia obovata gloss and increase from there. I've been watching a lot of Curly Proverbz videos so I feel pretty confident about getting into it. Thanx for the info. I'll keep it in mind.

I honestly don’t understand how to simply finger detangle. My strands stick and clump together. When I use my fingers, that clump just passes between my fingers and I end up missing it completely. A comb is the only thing that will alert me that those clumps are there and help me to break it apart. The clumps form from shed hair wrapping itself around a group of curls.

I have a very tight O pattern hair with 90% shrinkage. Like a slinky, it goes flat against my head when wet. So regardless of its length, it always looks like a short afro. I find it grows and flourishes when I do wash-and-gos and just let it shrink up and just focus on moisturizing it daily.

The nostraightened side of the illustrative cartoon reminds me of my "detangled" hair texture (4:52). My shrinkage doesn't bother me. My concern is tangles and knots. If I did not detangle my hair a couple of times a week, my hair naturally dreads (or permeantly knots). Which would be fine if I was choosing to wear it that way. I have not used heat on my hair since I big chopped in 2014. I airdry and am only willing to use heat with a plastic cap and head dryer for occossional deep conditioning. No hand held dryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc....

I would say about a 78% for my own … I’m surprised! ❤ I just have a lot of hair & it’s long. I would say it is 3B but it presents itself as tighter than 2C (there is pictures where my hair has those 2C patterns as a combination). And it’s with 3A, since I do heat style. Though, gracefully, I have these tight cocoon styled curls (always), styled as 3B. I feel it’s 3B but because of not being full-on natural in hairstyling (just regular wash & gos and/or wash and blowout and straighten with a month or so in between when styling it & maintenance of hair health❤️ of trims as needed & many haircare loving routines etc), I’m a mix. So it’s interesting! Thank you again for this explanation (I went back to it because I remember you were one of the few people who accurately described shrinkage percentages & I appreciated that even still today). I’ll categorize mine as tight shrinkage then lol (it really is). I measured 11.5” of hair bounce (after release) as the estimated percentage rate of shrinkage! When combing. Major, beautiful + healthy bounce. About 78% (per AI lmao as cosmetology references). It’s appreciated nonetheless. ✨

If I go second week without shampooing I don’t add additional moisturizer I only spray with water and add a little bit of oil

Also i pull it back after when its wet. Which is easiest for the style but maybe too much tension on my hair itself... idk. Im kinda guessing. Hi I’m 16 and my hair texture is changing from the root I’m mixed black and white and I was born with very coarse hair and tight curls almost 4a 4b hair on the back the middle of my hair has always been a little looser but not dramatically It’s been almost 3-4 months that I’ve noticed that my hair texture is changing from the root and also my overall body hair isn’t as full as it used to before I’m a very hairy girl and my hair it is very dark and thick But I lately noticed that I didn’t need to shave as much as I needed to before The worst part is that my natural hair grows looser some hair are even straight my roots are growing on a more wavy side than my “old” texture It’s so depressing to see it because I’ve come a loooong way from loving and embracing the hair that I was born with now that I embrace it I feel that what I fought and was mocked for as a child is fading away So I would like to know is there any possibility that my hair texture can come back or is it definitive

I have about 70% shrinkage and it’s NO FUN....that’s why I either have it tension blow-dried or in a crochet to make my life easier. It’s time to take my hair down from my crochet and I am excited about having my hair again. The power of a good haircut/trim also makes difference in just the ease of styling and holding the shape of those twists and creating the style you want.

I feel like I have 60-65% shrinkage. If I don’t stretch my hair after wash day with hair bands, I’ll have a really big Afro. It’ll shrink, but only to a certain extent!
