I have mostly natural grey/silver/white hair, and one of the reasons I decided to stop dyeing my hair in my mid-40s was because the grey bits coming in were so much shinier than anything I could achieve with dye. I also didn't want to spend the rest of my life chasing my roots every three weeks, and I have no need of appearing younger. Non-pigmented hair can be luminous.

I know! Sorry, but this girl doesn't understand how the dye process works, and she doesn't understand that it will always always damage your hair, there is no way around that...I really did not like the way she was blaming the product for things that here her own fault.
@beardiemom Жыл бұрын
@@Julia-nl3gq I mean, there are semipermanent conditioning dyes that don't lift your hair and just apply pigment on top. Those don't cause more damage, but you will never be able to go lighter than what your hair is already. I used to use those to go from dark blonde/light brown to a deep, dark red and they worked well, because the pigment was darker than what I started with and I had a natural base color.

First rule with color. Color does not lift color. There are some exceptions to the rule my 30 years of doing hair, I probably ran into maybe 2-3 clients at the most. You have to lift all the way and then bring it back down. Even my blondes that wanted silver ashy color we always had to lift them first because they still turn gold. You have to pull that yellow out because any color you put on your hair it’s gonna go on top of whatever color your hair is and if it’s not white or a really high blonde color you’re gonna be in trouble. This is why color correction is very expensive.

30 years ago age 20. Working as a brand new professional business woman. I was a petite, blonde Working in at the time a man's field. Never had color or much of anything to my hair. Thinking I would look ever so more business I thought I could color my hair a darker looking blonde. I grabbed ash! Ash on Virgin blonde big hair. Had so much hair at the time that a man asked my spouse Who is that? And is that a wig? 10 p.m I added 1 box (thank goodness I didnt buy enough to cover the mop on my head) as I washed it out i see Green, grey and black. The financial lady in the office happened to be a retired hairdresser. Drove 45 min one way to her home. Midnight... I had to be at the office by 8a.m. She did what she could but all I could see was green... Went to the best hairdresser in the town where I worked. He had to basically shear me like a sheep... I never had a truly professional do my hair. Not even as a child. (Youngest in the family, lucky if the mother even remembered my given name) I came out probably looking decent but at the time I didn't know how to work with short short hair. So, my boss and coworkers nicknamed me Qtip. I loved that office. Greatest experiences of my life that I used in my career throughout. I never ever EVER touched my with color again. Keep that to the true pros. Years later I realized how sad the hair profession has become. 4 different places in a row wrecked a plain Jane highlight job. Left the last one somehow looking like Ronald Mcdonald and she was the owner! They do not seem to have apprentice time or care at this point. Luckily for me the husband and wife team that had to shear me like a sheep 30 years prior were able to remedy in one shot! The day they retire... I will have to learn how to cut and trim my hair on my own and still never touch box dye.

If you want "silver" you need to treat the bleached hair (follow the instructions on the bleach) to remove any yellow first. I never went with the "silver" hair dyes. I used a diluted blue or purple. Once I just wash with the shampoo and conditioner that is to remove yellowing from natural grey or silver hair. Then I used a high gloss hair serum for the shine of the light blue/white hair. The shampoo and conditioner in my opinion did the best job. It helped clean the bleach out and condition the hair to help recover it from the bleaching. Bleach = Follow instructions. Condition a few days to help recover before any dyes. Permanent Dyes = Follow instructions. No color that is not your natural color is truly permanent. Temp dyes creme = follow instructions (you can wash it out earlier if you want less color, it will stain everything for at least 2-3 days after if you leave the creme in longer then instructions) Shampoo tints = Can usually get matching conditioners. Nice pastels or removing the yellowing while helping the hair recover.
