I retired from the salon in 2019 after 32 years behind the chair. That being said, I have to tell you, Mr. Hair Buddha, you sir , are brilliant with the analogies you've come up with to help things make sense to the "DIY hairdresser". My favorite is : " If you take a black piece of paper and write on it with a bright colored marker. Can you see that color? NO YOU CANNOT ! Now do the same with a white piece of paper...BOOM! YOU SEE??? for..explaining how direct dye (bright colors) cannot make dark or black hair bright. Simply brilliant!! I Love it ! I am addicted to this channel!

Here's where it goes wrong in my opinion: Laziness. Not bothering to look up information. Just buy something. Then: taking shortcuts as much as possible. Cutting, but especially dyeing. No proper measurements. Mixing less thoroughly than they should. No sections. They want to have the same results as a professional would, but without putting in the time and effort. A good dye job costs a lot of time, especially when bleaching. Sections, the finer the better. And the less volumes, the better, because you can do a second or third or even fourth bleach without ruining the hair. But with 10 or 20 volumes it takes longer to lift and that's the problem, they want it NOW.

Agreed but there’s a social factor. Good well researched unbiased doc videos on effect of social media on younger gens (DW’s video and the ‘IG effect: 2022’ docuvideo). Addiction to attn plus likes/approval from insecurity (common when young) and pressure to follow trends like ‘hair fails’. It’s why I’m so glad HB and Brad Mondo post good results too and point out things done right. The lack of gloves and or proper ventilation too often is scary.
@chrisannahampton2 жыл бұрын
Yep that’s exactly what happens I use 30 on my hair only because I put lots of colors in it and I’ve found 30 is easier to pull those colors but if I’m doing my daughter or my friends I use 20 because I’m not about to fry their hair off…. I can’t imagine putting on 40 the heat coming off of that and then wrapping it up in foil making then even hotter is crazy thought

Yes, but that's not blonde, it's just an orangey under lightened mess. If you just look at her in that front on camera, it's not bad, it's like yellow, but then the splotches of uneven colour looks kinda orange. The problem I see is people are way too impatient. I can't count how many people I've seen who said "I'm not touching the roots", but turn around and do the roots too. Taking small sections is tedious, especially on yourself, and having that crap on your head for any length of time is very uncomfortable, but that's how you have to do it.

Man, I do my own hair and "learned" how to bleach on my own head, and I've got to say, it you're gonna do that: a.) start small/with the most gentle products possible. I started with 20 vol bleach and have never needed anything stronger than that for my medium/dark brown hair, b.) thin sections, c.) consume as much content/info as possible from people that ARE pros on the topic, and d.) be willing to work with a result that might not be your ideal. I started bleaching my front section while it still had old black dye on the lower half, so I rocked ombre in my front until it grew out. I chose colors on the ends that could cover the gingery portions and went lighter in the areas I had platinum. I do definitely get the impulse behind wanting something really really badly and just going for it (adhd, lol) though, but the results are so much more satisfying with a bit more patience!! Nothing more satisying than freshly bleached roots and a nice, even color.

I always buy my products in specialized stores, that sell to both normal people and professionals. I bleached myself several times and nothing ever happened to me. Always inform me about what powders, how many, and how much volume. Then i became lazy and went to the hairdresser. I dyed my hair with permanent highlights of 10 colors, great job. They didn't come off when you washed them but when you cut your hair. With the pandemic, the only good thing is that i don't worry about my hair, and now i have it longer that ever in my life. I wanted it gray being a brunette, with 5 wrong gray hairs. I went in and i didn't care. She told me that she would have to do two bleachings, i told her what she considered appropriate. Whenever i go, i know that i am going to spend the whole day and spend money. But it is a job that must be paid. Your channel hooks. You don't laugh at people, but at their supposed wisdom. Them yoy give your opinion on why what they wanted did not come out and you explain it. Excuse my english. Greetings from Spain.

Oh my goodness! New here but I have a thought...maybe you should start a channel where people can ask advice BEFORE the disasters. Idk about other places but here if you ask a hair dresser for advice on anything like colors or hair styles that would work for a person, you get shut down and fast. Even if you give them the reins they just give you a blunt cut. No imagination in this neck of the woods. I just use box dye and let mine grow because I don't know what to do with it. I've been told by family members that I'm too old for my hair style. A lot of us are in the same boat. My daughter pulled the whole cut bangs too short then pull hair forward and cut it into new bangs to hide it thing...I lost it. Literally cried. Picking up tips on what not to do from these videos though and that's awesome! Thank you for the entertainment!!!
