Us here ..teach me your ways! I remember finding out what toner WAS ..and explaining it to Sally's employees . Worse was a hairdresser ( great w rainbow colors but I mentioned toner after yrs) finally went for highlights I was a 1990's skunk 😭 it got worse overnight ( she'd mentioned it might " change" ( I'd previously copied a simple Wella/ purple semi + conditioner on my own so I had high hopes) Carrot top the next day . Told me to come in n she'd fix it .. Dumped dark brown hair dye all over me. Left looking the same as I'd gone I'm .. except highly damaged hair

When I did my first round of ginger some 8 years ago I used 40V everytime I did my roots. For someone allergic to everything, it was surprisingly not painful. One year ago I went back to ginger, but with 30V and a mix of permanent colors (I have blue black virgin hair so I can't do with less than 30V).

Here in the U.K. we used 60% volume peroxide regularly whilst hairdressing in the late 70’s, early 80’s. Once better products arrived mid 80’s we tended to use 60% less often. No wonder we always had hair falling out! 😂😂😂

I love your reaction videos. They always make me laugh. I also watch Brad Mondo who is also a hairstylist and hair colorist. He used 50 vol on a wig and, if I remember correctly, the hair was smoking and melted off after a very short amount of time. I think it was like 10 minutes or something.

I once had a woman come into the salon and asking us to bleach her hair with 40%. We were like: "no, it's neither safe nor necessary to colour your hair with 40 volume." (She was dark/medium blonde with some white in between naturally) She said: "I don't mean 40 volume, I mean 40%. I've seen somebody do that in turkey." Long story short she left the salon furious about us refusing to ruin her hair after a brief discussion. 😂

And a good Aussie Mum, having a laugh but then helping out :D Also @HairBuddha, we don't have Sally's in Australia, so it wouldn't help us ;) I have now started bleaching my (longer) pixie/undercut myself - using BlondMe and 20 vol of COURSE! It's not perfect, but the hairdresser who cuts my hair was pretty impressed at how even and not-baby-chicken-yellow I did it - all thanks to you!

Yep she sure is, I’d say she’s got the manic panic from price attack or something where the girls are actually hair dressers that work there. They are like a hair supply store with a higher quality of products and also have a hair dressers salon in store as well. It’s amazing the difference of advice you get when you go somewhere that has qualified people to help.

100 volume is the highest sold, but it can only be bought by professionals and it has to be diluted. 50 volume is the highest I’ve seen sold in stores, but it’s rare.

I have been dying my own hair for about 20 years (with some advice from my hairdresser friends). My hair is naturally very dark brown with a lot of curl, but thanks to my red haired mother, it is very fine even tho I have a lot of hair. I only use 20 vol in my hair. I have been growing out a mohawk and just hit below shoulder length (while curly) and it was all virgin hair except for about 1cm on my fringe. 30 mins on mids and ends and 12 minutes on my roots. My curls are intact and my hair was taken down to a pale yellow almost white (now dyed a purple/blue).

I loooooove this girl. Love her vibe, love her attitude… just love this video. She’s so hilarious. It sucks that she went back dark because that light hair went so well with her skin tone. Made her look fresh and vibrant. I know how badly bleach burns, but I hope she gives it another shot. Start with a bleach bath, use lower volume developer, put Vaseline around your hairline to protect sensitive skin… whatever works. Everyone is different. 🤷‍♀️ She’s super cute either way though!

Normally, the key is taking fine sections. When the hair is this short, the key is saturation.

I've heard lower developer= lighter hair, stronger developer= brighter. Low and slow is better from what different hair dressers say who are blonde specialists but I could be wrong as I'm not a hair dresser 😅

Low and slow is better especially since you have more control on your application but if you’re more precise you can start to bump up the volume. It’ll all eventually lighten to the same level but how harsh and how fast is the difference

I've never loved/laughed wanted to cry but mostly RESPECTED a hair fail video so much. First as just background I've watched quite a few videos , but I heard you giving respect in the first part ..Yes these ppl are putting themselves out there I can't the only brunette with a saved playlist of blonde dreams ( I think it's labeled 2019 lo) The older I get the more I want to.. just once while I'm alive ! As I was going to pick up 20 vol developer for my regrowth, I saw them selling 50 vol developer 😳😬I have veryyyy dark brown hair and 20 volume for 40 mins lifts my regrowth to almost white after only one session. And there's basically no damage. I love 20 vol❤️

Yes, the employees at hair supply stores 97% of the time know way less about hair then I do. I have been doing my hair for so long, I've done a few other's hair and I have made enough mistakes to learn what has to be done. I've watched so many videos the past few years that I've learned how to fix the mistakes I've made in that past. If you are going to do your hair at home, watch these reaction videos, take notes, watch videos of people with the same hair types and take notes. Spend HOURS learning about the results you are looking for. It will be well worth it!

I would've liked to see her try some blue toner to cancel the orange. That virgin snow toner is violet or purple in pigment, so it'd cancel out some yellow if anything, but that'd just make it a more reddish orange since it was orange and not yellow. I'm sure it would've been darker than she wanted still, but I wonder if she would've been happier with it then.

What about intial bleach with 30 volumes and then the second time with 20 volumes? Get rid of most of the pigment with a less harsh 30 and then the remaining pigments at twenty volumes the second time around. My hair is like medium ash brown/blonde and wanting to go lighter. *Edit okay, nevermind, I'll probably only go 20 volumes, never higher because i have fine hair and I'm sure two applications of anything higher than 20 volumes would make my hair fall TF out* Thank you for all your advice Hair Buddha and thanks to all the people sharing their experiences ❤

🙋‍♀️ I work at Sally. Over 20 years and the employees ARE educated on color chemistry and color theory, but you know... some people aren't good at... learning, to put it gently. And they end up working the floor anyways. So sally hired a bunch of licensed colorist to give customers the real help they desperately need via QR code. I do want to thank you for making these videos. I always them/you when I'm trying to educate customers.

I live in the UK, I’m also a hairdresser and years ago (probably well over 20 years ago now 😩) you could buy 60vol peroxide. In fact I remember my old boss when I was training doing a clients hair white with 60vol and bleach… 😳😳 Im surprised she had any scalp left let alone any hair 😂😂 I think they have banned the sale of 60vol here now…. I never use anything higher than 20 vol with bleach and I will only do one application per appointment and I make my clients wait at least 3 weeks before having another bleach colour. I did a client from black permanent box dye (And her natural hair colour was on a base 3 😳)to pastel lilac, I pre warned her as to how long it would take and how much it was going to cost but she was happy to go ahead….I also didn’t give her any guarantees that her hair was going to get that light…..but at least it won’t be completely wrecked…..in every application we added olaplex and toned after so she didn’t look completely bonkers when she was out and about…..she went auburn, red, orange 😂😂 one of the applications getting towards the end was reallllllyyyyy yellow, we both just burst out laughing when we saw it, luckily the toner worked just to neutralise some of the pigments…. It took approx 6 months with waiting times in between but it was lovely when it was finished. Bleaching with 20vol is slower but it lifts a lot nicer and with a lot less damage than 30vol especially if you add a bit of olaplex and really take your time and yes lots of product and SMALL SECTIONS 👍👍
