At 15 my hair went from straight to curly 2 years ago. I didn't do anything to my hair and I didn't even realise that my hair was going curly until I took a good look at my hair. I was confused because 3/4 months ago I was confident that my hair was straight. I was WRONG, I looked at my prom photos and my hair looked a bit curly in the front (I used to have shorter hair before). I told my mom and even she was surprised. She told me my hair now looked like my great-grandmother's. I did some research and apparently your hair can change during puberty. After some time my hair grew and became beautiful 3b curls to be precise. After I came back to school everyone was mesmerized but at the same time, they told me that my hair was a perm. It annoys me when people either touch my hair or say it is a perm because IT'S NOT a perm but at the same time I do understand why they don't believe me. Long story short, YOUR HAIR CAN CHANGE although I do think it's a pretty rare thing to happen. If you read this I hope you will have a nice day and become the best version of yourself.

ATTENTION “AFRO” HAIR TYPES! Anyone with afro hair watching this video might get the impression that their hair must be coarse because they can go without washing a few days without their hair getting majorly greasy. (And because most ‘afro’ footage here was in the ‘coarse’ section…) This is not the case! Even with afro hair, you can know what hair type you have just by how it feels. When you touch your hair, does it feel more like wispy cotton, or more like sponge? If you wear your hair out in an afro, do you have issues with the light hitting it and making it look thinner? If your hair is past your ears, does it “deflate” when saturated with water? Or does it look the exact same dripping wet and bone dry? If your hair looks the same and feels more “spongy” or wiry, chances are you have coarse hair. If your hair goes a little limp (the curls will still be there), feels cottony, and/or looks kind of thin in the sunlight, your hair type is fine. I’m not a man, but as somebody with afro fine hair, I can go a week or even two without shampooing and have my hair still look great. However, this is specifically because of my AFRO CURL PATTERN. My hair is type 4, which means that even if my scalp gets greasy, the sebum takes a very long time to travel down my hair shaft! This is because it’s just much easier to travel down a straight path fast than a winding one. The straighter your hair, and the closer it grows to your head, the easier it is for oils to travel downwards. If your hair grows up and out and has a very curly pattern, it might take even a month to get greasy! For us, it’s better to focus on scalp care over all. Our hair might not get greasy enough to warn us it’s time for a wash, but your scalp will definitely remind you. I shampoo my hair once a week to keep my scalp happy. But my hair lacks natural oils from my scalp because of the above, meaning that after a wash it can become very dry and brittle. Despite this, my fine hair also hates oils! The solution is a light conditioner with a good emulsion, applied onto damp hair. If your hair is long enough after this, put it into fat cornrows or twists. This will keep your hair moisturised enough not to break (once the dampness dries away), and keep tangles away until you’re ready to wear it out again. Put a durag on when it dries, so you can sleep without breakage.
@prettyrat. Жыл бұрын
For coarse afro hair, like the video mentioned, oils and heavy products can be a great ally!! Where fine and medium types may struggle with the volume of their hair, curls somehow still managing to look after when adding oils - your hair keeps shape so much more easily! For you, you can go even longer without washing your hair - though again, your scalp may get irritated if you push it too far. You can also get away with adding more oils - in fact, it’s encouraged! Oils will soften your coarse hair and make it easier to manage. After washing your hair, a good conditioner is still encouraged - but you can allow it to be a little heavier or thicker, as it won’t wear your hair down. Conditioners that come in small tubs instead of bottles may end up being your best friend - just make sure you’re not using a conditioner that leaves a cast or flakes. You want the conditioner to be absorbed, not just sitting on top of your hair. Once you’ve applied the conditioner, you can also go in with an oil of your choice. Then twist or cornrow your hair like above, durag etc. If you have coarse hair, a twist may not stay put - so cornrows may be a better option, if you’re willing to do any of that.

But then I have a problem where if I shampoo my hair too much It gets frizzy if I leave it unwashed for a week it gets greasy

You still need to apply some oil after shampoo so your scalp doesn't overproduce oil

Bro, why use Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate? I know that if you combine it with Cocamidopropyl Betaine it willl be about 70% less harsh, still it feels like a cheap trick. Could make the shampoo prolly 15% better by just leaving out the Sodium Sulfates, and only using something like Cocoamidopropyl as a tenside

No matter what I try, my hair is and always will be coarse, frizzy, and thin, I might've keratined it if I could but that would probably just accelerate my thinning and make it worse.

Remember it's not just about products. Your haircut and how you dry your hair matter too.

funny thing, i have a combination of fine and medium hair. i have fine hair (2A-3C) on the crown and medium hair on the back and sides (1A-2A). Unlucky with the genetic lottery.

i cant tell what hair type i have, about 1.5 years ago i could go 1-2 weeks without shampooing and since i began puberty i have to wash my hair every 2-3 days. what makes this even more confusing is i have pretty thick hair and it doesnt look thin even when its greasy

I have thick course hair and needs to shower every day due to oily scalp. Stop with no wash for days BS!

for how long did you try to keep off shampoo? generally the way this works is that for the first few days w/o shampoo your scalp will overproduce sebum (because your scalp is hella dry and it wants to compensate). But if you keep faith, rinse your head with lukewarm water daily and maybe use conditioner (co-washing), the problem should fix itself in about a week. that's how it was for me - now my hair is barely ever frizzy (and it usually happens after i do use shampoo lol)

Not washing your hair enough will MAKE UR HAIR FALL! So do NOT leave your hair greasy for long periods of time!

Greasy means where hair appears oily ? After washing my hair, till evening it becomes clumped(strands stuck together looking like a bunch). Does it mean I have a fine hair as well? I have seen a KZbin video on knowing your hair type I don't remember the name of the youtuber but according to his videos I found my hairstyle that is wavy hair .
