You should remove excess water before applying hair mask or conditioner what you do is basically diluting the product and preventing the product from adhering to your hair cuticules .

if you are using a heavy or sticky oil like coconut oil you will probably need to wash your lengths and ends a bit to get it out it depends on your hair type and the products you use
