If I don't know what I want, but I know what it looks like, I just google it and show a pic and say "Hey! This is the style I want!" They will know exactly what it is from the pic. So they'll just go "Oh you want the (Haircut Name)?" and I just say yeah, hook me up. Thank god for the internet!

I hate to admit it, but it always better when a black man gives advice on hair. Why? Because our hair is always seen as unprofessional unless it involves waves and we tend to understand all hairstyles instead of only straight hair like majority of barbers who only cut straight hair.

A shadow fade is any fade that actually starts with hair on the sides. A skin fade (bald fade) starts with skin.

You’d have to get a shaving waiver. These are obtained for people who gets shaving irritation. If you got a shaving waiver, you’d be able to grow a beard (no longer than a 1/4 inch mostly). If you’re in the reserve, you can grow one when you’re not working your one weekend a month, but you’d have to shave when at drill. Unless of course you have the shaving waiver.

They do have religious accommodations. You’d have to coordinate this with your recruiter prior to joining. It’s a pretty easy and simple process.

So you can get 2.5 inches of bulk, and the reg says “Hair will not protrude under the front band of headgear”. So you have keep that in mind if you decide to have fringe.

The fades are the same across the board. The styles on top are different. I didn’t go into black haircut styles because we have so many different names for the same haircut. So as long as you stay within 2.5 inches of bulk on top, you’re good. I gave a lot of examples at the end of this video with black men haircuts. All of those are within regs.
