If it‘s just a ball then sure, I hate it, because it looks like an ugly monster ;-; (Mainly because I knew a show where a hair ball monster was in one of the episodes), but if it‘s just cut and on the floor or something, I still love it. And like the first one, with her giant pile of Yorkshire Terrier, I found that weirdly fascinated and wanted to touch it ;-;

LYDIA HERTZ my hair is literally the exact same as hers, here are some tips; don’t colour it at all, don’t use any heat at all, wash no more than once a week and use natural products - I use LUSH, and silk pillow cases and hair ties are excellent. Also, I use paper towel to dry my hair and don’t rub it, squeeze the water out gently and let air dry. I abused the hell out of my hair for years as a teenager like relentless bleach, colour and heat and then just completely stopped about 4 years ago and it has completely changed, it’s like pure silk. I wish you all the luck on your hair journey ♥️♥️

Also within our own culture since our older generations were raised where other races saw it as nappy abd bad they pass down self hate to younger generations and we grow up getting told it has to look a certain way for important things, like no natural hair for Easter, or important pictures. The first girl raises a great point about talking about moldy locs. It can happen to anyone with locs (yes even if you have Afro textured hair), but it much more an issue if you have straight or wavy hair because of all the things done to loc up the hair (beeswax, extensions, etc) and how hard that makes it to dry the locs all the way through. I would say she should have gone for thinner locs and then used a hair dryer to get them dry. Also your locs should NOT be heavy. That's a really quick way to have traction alopecia issues. Source: 10 years of locs that are down to my hips

Locs are different from “dreadlocks” which have a negative history in some places. Some ppl are just learning to embrace the idea of natural hair vs permanently straightening it (perm), temporarily relaxing it (relaxer that allows hair to “revert”), hot combing or flat ironing it, etc to assimilate. Some family members don’t understand why you would make it harder on yourself to get ahead by wearing your natural hair (specifically if you have type 4 or bushy type 3). I’ve been natural for 20 yrs and my family didn’t support it at first either. Back then, society didn’t view my type 4 as beautiful unless it was altered; it was called Unprofessional and employers strongly suggested I “tame it” with relaxers or perm, or extensions like micro-mini braids to make it “more presentable”. But things are changing now 🙂.

@@nfischy1018 "Elf-locks" are what Shakespeare called them in the 'Queen Mab' rant of 'Romeo and Juliet', and those were also popular with Celt and Scandinavians, especially working class, due to the low maintenance. But it's part of the stigma for locks comes from. The catholic war on paganism and traditions of pagan practice came to the America's DESPITE most of the colonist being protestant in part because the protestants were already booted from Europe for extremism. The presence of both folk magic AND locks among the African slave shipments wasn't where the hate started, it was just a continuation of blind prejudice. The same hate was also the driving force behind witch trials, and sadly the modern world is still....not really done dumping hate on the outliers of local society.

I'd like to clarify that true dreadlocks are only possible with very curly to afro textured hair because the curls physically lock together and can be created with little manipulation, and can be washed without damage. It's much harder to create the look with straight hair, so for anyone with straight hair considering it, research the process and commitment first because it will be a LOT of work
@quartersrok5 жыл бұрын
This is so true. One of my friends has gorgeous well maintained dreads and it takes her so much work.

Agree but to be fair straight would lock together into strands if you don’t wash it anymore at all for a while and you live outside (Unless you have greasy hair). But honestly dread locks always look pretty messy on white people’s hair... like there’s hair all over the place, some strands are straight, etc,...

I wanted to see what it was like without committing my whole head to it. I had one lock on the right side of my head for about 2 years! You’d think it looked funny but it actually looked good! He put charms and strands of silk on occasion and I was in love. The day we went to take it out, he ended up just cutting it off. I still have it in a jewelry box! If you want to try new things with your hair, please try this. It’s absolutely amazing. However, when taking them out and putting them in, bear in mind how thick you want your dreads to be.
