I know exactly what she means by "ugly pretty". Unconventional beauty. Taking things that our media and society would usually deem "ugly" but pulling it off in such an edgy and beautiful way. Embracing the more extreme out of the box that a lot of people might even hate on. Like even the gap in her bangs that kept bothering both of you or how insanely messy and choppy they were at first. If she wanted to, she really could pull it off. As much as I'm not a fan of the people anymore, Yolandi and Ninja from Die Antwoord are actually really awesome examples of this. They even have a song called "Ugly Boy" that I kind of love. The whole idea of the "ugly" aesthetic has helped me accept my own physical self a ton actually. Instead of putting myself down for being "ugly", I've just embraced it because I couldn't ever get myself to see myself as beautiful like others did. I'm absolutely obsessed with extreme looks and unconventional beauty. Out of the box. Everyone should go feral and let go of beauty standards. And I feel like fem folks shaving their heads or bleaching/shaving their brows and really pushing more creative makeup on tiktok and such is kind of starting to explore that. Are those things ugly? No. Not at all. But for a very long time, they were told that it was. They're baby steps towards a very colorful and unique future and I adore that.

right? Not to mention so many people don't know how flattering something can really look on them until they do it, but because it's unconventional they never do it, sometimes never consider it. ie I shaved my head and dyed it platinum blond and then light blue and it's like i finally understand why I fought my hair for so long...I have a small forehead and pixie face but nobody ever told me I could rock looking almost bald. It looks so right I immediately identified with it more than any other hairstyle I'd had. the same pathology is also why I stopped wearing makeup... It just didn't suit me. Many people have faces that I think really shine when totally bare, but that's rarely seen as a true style choice to be paired with a nice outfit. There's so many options that it's silly not to play around with them. The amount of times someone looks good with a real mullet, or wearing androgynous clothes or clothes made for the opposite sex--and often it doesn't look like cross dressing! That can be flattering too but my point is they look so right in the piece that they define it, not the other way around. I totally agree we should lean into all forms of experimentation, not just what "works" for us, because it's about having fun, but I'm just saying on top of that there are so many opportunities to realize green eyebrows or a missing tooth or dark circles or a mohawk or a lolita dress etcetc truly complements you. It's thrilling to make those discoveries and I would love to see people with the freedom to find that until they have a whole fleshed out idea of it, instead of abiding by conformity. can you imagine how neat people would look at like formal events?
@iwishiwasabeetle Жыл бұрын

I did the same thing 😭 I did split dye and then kept rebleaching the half side and eventually microbanged in order to get the dead parts off and I'm just now getting to have my bangs like where my eyes are I'm hoping for curtain bangs eventually
@jennaleigh6532 Жыл бұрын
@@vanesspainn1127 don’t worry, you’ll get there! I had my hair dyed as a “prize” for a competition and they entirely destroyed my hair with bleach (they tried to go from dark brown box dyed hair to platinum and bleached my hair 3 times in one day. My scalp was literally burnt and scabbed for nearly 2 weeks). I tried to play it off for like a year by having wildly vibrant purple hair. Eventually I couldn’t deal with the damage anymore and decided to cut it, but wanted to have some fun. Thus, the baby bang. After immediate regret and another trip to the hairdresser, I had a pixie cut. This was mid 2020 and now my hair is just about boobie length, so yes, it will definitely grow back, it’ll just take some time.

wow. I just reached the pinnacle of my brad mondo watching experience. he released this video at the exact same time I was cutting my bangs. unexpectedly thrilling.
@unfilthy11 ай бұрын
If there's one thing I've learned from cutting my own bangs for over two decades, it's that you have to give the hair a minute to settle down. It's like it wants to stay where it was before, but the weight is gone, and the direction is wrong (if you had it parted or going back especially), so I wash my hair after the cut and then comb it in the correct direction (Brad's correct; comb from the outside in on both sides, then down in the center- these aren't curtain bangs, you're trying to teach it to do the opposite of flying to the sides), and sometimes if you're not into lots of products and styling it will take a couple days to really fall naturally with the new cut. I just keep that in mind, and know that once it's settled I might need to give it some final touches, instead of trying to go for perfection in one go, because suddenly that one piece that insists on going slightly sideways, or straight forward, when it's resting naturally on the forehead might be a bit long, but if I made sure it was all perfectly straight when it was still going in all directions then it'd be uneven later. Basically, don't panic. That's when you start cutting too much and adding bits that ruin the shape and it's much harder to fix that than if you just live with it being not perfect for a weekend and then perfect it. PS: if you have straight hair, definitely do the initial cut dry and without tugging on it, to get the length you're actually going for.

hahahah I just had my own debacle with cutting microbangs that ended up looking like a buzzcut... grew out for two months and my overbooked stylist squeezed me in between two people getting color, last Friday, because I sent her pics of what I did to myself and she said 'oh my god, I have to help her'. The thing I LOVE about micro bangs is even when I occasionally trim them a little too short they can still turn out great if I just clean up the line and blow dry style them in that side to side technique. Sweety! The reason you dont put tension on hair while cutting bangs is that HAIR IS STRETCHY. It has good tensile strength meaning it will return to natural shape when the tension is released. Unless its stretched past its release point where its tensile strenth is broken and the hair becomes very brittle. Honestly, i think hair texture or stretchiness has a lot to do with the hair styles best suited to home hair-cuts... healthy, stretchy hair can be styled to hide any crappy haircut!
