I am a Jamaican, but I ate this on a trip in Martinique! (I met a few Haitian friends who lived there). It was SO delicious and I just have to try this recipe for myself to get a different taste from our own rice and peas. I'll probably reply with an update when I do!

Hey try boiling the beans use the beans water to make the rice and dispose of the beans. That way you can still get the color.

I think I’m brave enough to try. I just never know when to stir. If I stir it gets too mushy or pasty. My best friend told me a good rice maker is said to be born with a gift of diri.

Looks delicious, but it's too much trouble. Nothing anyone wants to deal with after a hard day's work and arthritis. We've done great black beans and rice in minutes with canned beans, herbs, spices, butter, sour cream, pico de gallo, hot sauce, etc.
