Great boots and get better when properly worn in. I have some that have been well worn and I have looked after the leather to the point they look like an old armchair, would not want to change them. Great foot and ankle support, warm when needed with good levels of breathability, and the davos sole is a superb multi surface sole. They are excellent in the wet, one of the best all round boots on the market.

I finally managed to find these boots here in Bulgaria on a second hand website. They came brand new with the labels, no box for €70. I'm quite happy, for the money it's a bargain. Best boots I've ever had. They are warm and comfortable and feel quite luxurious to me to be honest. Many thanks for the videos you make. For me, the opinion of a British person is the most significant.

Got to ask. Can you do more cold weather surplus boots reviews? I ve purchased some grade 1 German special forces Miendi boots black. Cost me £60 off Ebay an online Army surplus shop. Looked at the reviews seem good enough for winter. Struggled to get British Army ECW boots in my size or lowas. So I went for the Miendi German army ones. Do you use crampons on your boots when walking on ice and snow? What are the best winter walking boots for snow and Ice?
@ontherunplmr1218
@ontherunplmr1218 Жыл бұрын
Hello, most of my walking is just on low level footpaths , fields etc so I do not need any crampons. again most of the time in winter its walking in mud for me rather than ice although we had 10 days of ice paths recently. At the moment this winter I have been using the Karrimor SF boots and the Haix High Liablity boots The British Army Cold weather boots are I believe designed to to be used down to minus 9 so any of the British Army boots like Haix, Iturri should be good Take care out there

Great boots but cant find a size 12 . I usually walk 7-10 miles every day over the downs ,up and down grassy slippery muddy hills in all weathers , Are there any other boots that you could recommend that I will get a year or more out of under 80 quid? I usually buy 2nd hand Brashers but fancy a change .
@ontherunplmr1218
@ontherunplmr1218 Жыл бұрын
Hello yes the Haix Cold Weather boots are getting more difficult to find. In the price range you mention I think you could find lots of different boots. The Iturri Cold Weather boot is excellent part of the 2018 roll out, prior to that alongside the Haix boot in 2013 is the Karrimor SF by Iturri in essence both of these boots are very similar and the SF boot has been a lower cost but again might now be difficult to source. Some of the other popular boots are the Altberg Defender and Haix high liablity, you should be able to find plenty of these. I could go on and mention a lot of boots from different countries that you can pick up in your price range, some of them are boots from yesteryear so might not be as comfortble but are very weatherproof and durable, the Swiss KS 90 boot is a good example, very good value Take care out there

Hi I have not yet worn the Haix boots but specs are similar in so much as quality leather boot , both with 4 ply Gortex linings. Lacing system differ that the Haix have the hook type laciing at the top while the Iturri have tunnel type lacing furniture.The Iturri boot does perform very well in the mud and wet but I would believe the Haix will also Perhaps come down to your budget and availablity . Again the Karrimor SF boot manufactured by Iturri is perhaps the lowest in cost to purcahse and again a very similar boot Take care out there

They are both good performers but the Iturri boots are quite heavy especially wearing in the field for hours on end. Also the Haix are more comfortable in my opinion too.

I just came back from a camp in Scotland with an army surplus pair of these Haix boots. Mine came with the speed lace system (dont know what its called, but you get a widget to tie off the laces fast). I cleaned them, polished them, aired them out, and took them out. They are very comfortable, waterproof, and warm. I had some issues with blisters but this was mostly because I had not worn them, I bought them oversized, was not wearing thick socks, so my feet were sliding around inside, so I got some blisters on the sole of my foot. (all on me) I would say that they are very light considering the amount of "boot" you get. I also felt that they were great for opening up. When you need to get into your tent, you just need to unlace these things and pull the sides apart, and they open like a ski boot. They are equally as easy to put on in the morning. I love my pure 100% Leather Highlander army surplus boots, and I'm sure they will last far longer than me, but these Haix boots were really nice in bitterly cold conditions. They are light, warm, and VERY easy to get on and off. Nobody likes to spend five minutes faffing outside the tent whilst you are running laces and tying to work your boots to a point where you can get them off without falling over.
@ontherunplmr1218
@ontherunplmr1218 Жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for your input some great Info here, re the lacing I am just wondering from your description that the boots you have might be a different type of Haix boot and not the cold weather ? Some of the newer Haix boots for example made for the Dutch forces have the type of lacing systems in both Black previous issue boots and now Brown in their latest versions, plus I believe some of the other Haix models have that system, in any event I do not think anybody can go far wrong with any of the Haix boots Take care out there

Hello yes if you can find at a good price because I believe more difficult to find as time goes by, Apart from a hot summer I believe these could be used in autumn or warmer winters where mud/water is more of a problem than cold. I am sure these can work well in those conditions, I am currently using the Haix High Liablity boots which have worked well this winter, apart from one cold snap most of the time wet and muddy. So if you can find a pair of these Haix winter boots could be a good purhase Take care out there

 @On The Run Plmr thanks 👍 I also used High Liablity GTX, these boots are great overall, except extremely high weight (~1.2kg each) and I found that one boot is not absolutely hermetic after some creek crossings, nothing serious, but need to change socks from time to time.

Yes you are correct about the weight, I also find the leather to be stiff but again that does seem to help with the overall excellent construction, I have found my pair to be 100 % waterproof even with some small water crossings Take care out there

I recomended these to a friend once and they where nice and comfy but the soles disintegrated within 6 months. Not very good at all. It's some sort of foam or something that just ages and breaks down very fast. The leather did also crack very fast, the leather looks like it has a paint ontop and is probably not the best quality.

Thanks for your input, the problem you mentioned seemed to be more of an issue from boots in the past plus seems to more of a problem with boots kept in storage. Re the leather via the Tanning process has waterproofing added which I believe ? is by injecting a silicon type material into the leather perhaps that is what you are viewing ? Haix recommend that you use a silicon based show polish to maintain the leather which they can supply or sometimes you can pick up ex German Bundeswehr shoe polish which is silicon based Take care out there
