Order of the Thistle, The order's primary emblem is the thistle, the national flower of Scotland. The motto is Nemo me impune lacessit (Latin for "No one provokes me with impunity"). The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle is an order of chivalry associated with Scotland. The current version of the order was founded in 1687 by King James VII of Scotland.

Most people who have never served in the forces do not understand the time it takes to prepare a uniform for a parade; the attention to detail, the shine on the shoes without a smudge using baby diapers, bleaching white gloves to make sure they are genuinely white, then soaking them in water forever to get the bleach smell out, making sure the trousers are exactly at the proscribed length and without any wrinkles (creases are very important), the chevrons must be exactly placed and not a thread sticking out, getting someone who knows how to precisely tie the necktie, using an iron at the exact heat so that the shirt collar is not scortched... The list is almost endless. It takes a long time to get that uniform in correct order to pass an inspection for a parade.

For all of you who are against the monarchs, I would like to say this. The UK is notoriously famous for its strong love of its heritage and, therefore, retains its ceremonies and rituals. I love it and wish my country did the same thing. Instead, we have a very small percentage of the population who likes to tear down statues of those who are representative of the past. They evidently think that tearing down statues will change history and make them better people and we all know that isn’t true. Who these people are today has nothing to do with the people who were here several hundred years ago. Our statues aren't nearly as old as ANYTHING in the UK, but for some, they give a sense of stability to our country. Please be glad that your country embraces its heritage instead of hating it. Those of us who are here today are not responsible for things that happened in the past and no amount of hell raising is going to change that. I would give my eye teeth to experience the patriotism that one sees in the UK as opposed to the incivility that goes on in my country. And if you don't like the monarchy and all things associated with it, just stay home and keep still about it. Other than stirring up a bunch of resentment, has standing in the street screaming "Not My King" accomplished anything? I doubt it. The people who are involved in all of this are to be commended for peacefully showing a strong sense of patriotism as opposed to those who like to raise hell and destroy things. And we all know that no one wants or needs any more stress in their lives these days. So, party on, "here's mud in your eye" and God Save The King!!

Scotland and England ceased to be separate sovereign nations in 1707 under the Act of Union, which created the new country of Great Britain. In fact, Britain nowadays comprises Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Britain is not simply England, as so many Americans seem to think. It also seems you don't know that a hundred years before the Act of Union, upon the death of Queen Elizabeth I of England in 1603 (who had no direct heir) King James VI of Scotland also became King of England (as King James I of England). James was the son of Elizabeth's cousin, Mary Queen of Scots. And to confuse you even further, the late Queen Elizabeth II was herself half Scottish. Her mother, the wife of King George VI, was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the daughter of Scottish aristocrats The Earl and Countess of Strathmore. It helps to know what you are talking about...
