I have a friend who speaks like this. He's not wearing any braces or have a lisp but still speaks like he babbles something. He told me that he speaks faster than he thinks of the next words so he just kinda blurts out whatever comes and it made the words less understandable. It's kind of a drag according to him but all of our classmates back then got used to it and understands him no problem. It's like we had enhanced our listening skills because of him. If we focus on listening we'd have no problem understanding whatever he says.

My little sister is just like your friend! She speaks differently at work and when she's with friends or family though. I asked her why she sounds more articulate when she's working and she said that she had to force herself to pace her words so other people can understand her. But when she's relaxed, she speaks faster than she thinks. This is the first time I've seen anyone else mention anything similar to what my little sister has. Cool!
