Some may hear some random yelling, I see so much more. I hear war cries, language generations old, hundreds upon hundreds of years old. Still alive till this day, all the history coming out of the warrior as she sings. Such beauty.

Is it nice that Polynesian history is so carefully preserved today. "Te Ka" is virtually the same name as one of the two closest things that New Zealand's navy have to battleships. In fact the current commander in chief of the navy once commanded her. The other one goes by the confusing interpretation of "The Power" or "The Authority".

It's a living tradition with many different facets and contexts.

Do not confuse Kiwi indignity as weakness. When the natives realized exactly what it means to cede "sovereignty" to the crown of London it caused a 30 year war in 1843. A short firefight with "armed police" in 1915 over a "non conceded" Maori village was later seen as potentially the last engagement in that war. If the UK army seriously retained a tactic regarding dug in infantry the Great War could have been easier for them.

Why do people become scared of this? I really don't kknow. They are just humans with the urge to say some things I don't understand anyways. Since you do not win rugbymatches with tribal dances etc who cares? Where I come from it did not matter a bit. With football we played for one thing: win. Who our opponent was, bigger, stronger, better whatever...We did everything necessary to win. So with some team from New Zealand we would just make kissing gestures to them and laugh during there dance. They wanted to be respected? We would do the exact opposite for sure and this would continue 90 minutes long during the match as well. So scared? No. Win in whatever way needed.
@Emberchariot
@Emberchariot 2 жыл бұрын
Haka doesn't mean to kill, its showing tribal tradition, if your scared by tribal tradition then dear God how do we win the next war?
@Mystical-wt1cx
@Mystical-wt1cx 2 жыл бұрын
@@Emberchariot But he is right. The purpose of Haka dance was to intimidate the enemy before the war. Maori tribe had seen lot of adversities, so one of the men created this to instil courage in the people and fear in the enemy.

In fact both of the helicopter gunship frigates in the NZ naval battle fleet go by the native names of "Strength" and "Authority". in the language of these chanters. Their support ship for supplies and equipment runs back to shore during battles is being replaced by a ship that will be titled the native name for the region as well.

Bekuska we Maori believe our Tupuna or Tipuna (depending what part of NZ you come from) Ancestors are around us all the time. Sometimes they let you know they are there and sometimes we talk to them and sometimes, we call to them through Haka, chants and by Karanga. So for someone to say there's nothing and no one there, have no spiritual feelings and connections to the past and the ancestors who have passed. You and anyone who have these feelings are apart of the spirit of this earth and our people. ✌

@Justice tbh I didn't do anything particularly rude, just put an exclamation mark at the end of a sentence. Didn't use any abusive language, hate speech or slurs. I merely said that practically everyone who knows anything about rugby knows that the haka happens pre match. If anyone got offended by that that's too bad and pity about them, getting offended on people's behalf because they're not knowledgeable is lame, if they want to get in touch to say they were offended I'll happily argue with them but you seem to be peeved because they might not know.
