great video, I'd actually put Dream as best center of all time, slightly ahead of Wilt and Moses, not by a lot, just by a hair,.. his overall arsenal of moves and playing alongside no major superstars for a good chunk of his career, and still carrying his team much in the way Wilt did for a chunk of his career. Hakeem took down David Robinson, Patrick Ewing and Shaq in their primes. And he took down Kareem and the Showtime Lakers in 86 only to lose to the five Hall of Famer Celtics team in 86 (no shame in that just like there was no shame in him losing to the absolutely stacked Georgetown team in the college Final) . I'd actually probably say Hakeem and Wilt are tied, I couldn't put one above the other really.. they were both likeable dudes too , and humorous off the court.. Hakeem definitely had more morality though lol

i now think you are right. but im just wondering, do you think hakeem is better? i think hakeem is 2nd only to kareem for centers. i cant agree more with you on hakeem's superior diversity and versatile moves but nonetheless, kareem was more effecient i think but ive not looked at the stats so i cant say for sure.
@kareem33showtime88

Very respected comment and appreciated from you as well. Now, ill first say that im a laker's fan and kareem is my fav laker so that's why i decided to make that my name. I couldnt agree more, it's like who would you take if you could have them a long time, well, i wouldnt care if you picked hakeem because of the tenacity he would bring (as well as toughness). When it was crunch time hakeem was more leaned on and needed than kareem was which i really do RESPECT. kareem probably came across as a lazy player to some but honestly i think that his personality off the court led to the same on the court, as in, he wasnt a hustler or anything like that on the court unlike hakeem but that's likely because he seemed very calm off the court. but more to the point. I'll give you this, i legit think that hakeem was the better player and id say that to anyone who asked me, but just like you said, kareem is more of the typical avg "center" which i guess would prevail him above hakeem to most but not to me. theyre both very different, id take one to lead my team and franchise. id take one to help our team tremendously and to be the final piece to win a championship. although, i do belive that hakeem was more balanced and could do more things in all ways. both of them dont have a clear weakness and i think theyre about 50 50. i guess the reason i may have said i chose kareem over hakeem is more of a personel reason. i very much respect your comment and respect you show.

@localneo-graphic4647
@localneo-graphic4647 2 жыл бұрын
@@StuUngar Hard take, young Shaq was pretty damn athletic. So was young Hakeem, but I think Shaq might have the edge. Not only was he bigger, he combined his athleticism with power. I'd say young Shaq and young Hakeem are similar in terms conventional athleticism, but Shaq's power gives him an edge. Even 2000 Shaq, who traded in size and power for athleticism, was STILL ridiculously athletic for someone who weighed 350 pounds. That was the only year he was both huge AND in shape, but even after that he was still ridiculously athletic for his size and laziness. Honestly, of the 5 GOAT centers, Hakeem might not be tied for 2nd in height (with Russell), but also the 2nd least athletic if you put Shaq over him (still way ahead of Kareem). Yes, Bill Russell was WAY more athletic than Hakeem, and his athleticism gets slept on just because he played against Wilt, who was just superhuman. At their athletic peaks, Hakeem could get his to the rim, but Russell could get his head OVER it, and they were the same height.

Look at the play at the 4:28 mark. There's literally 4 people guarding him and he still makes the basket with ease. Truly an incredible center. Being his height, and the things he was able to do was just flat out incredible. Wish I was able to watch him play during that era but I was too young :/. However, I still watch his highlights in awe.

Everyone forgets that the dream made it to the finals in 86 beating the showtime Lakers and loosing to the Celtics. His team was dismantled after that year, they lost 2 guards to 2 year bans for Substance abuse, and Ralph Sampson got hurt. They had to completely rebuild that team around Olajuwon. The Bulls never lost three of their most important pieces like that. It was a huge set back for them or else we would be sitting here talking about how many titles the Houston Rockets had won. Anyway I just have to say the Dream was the number # 1 player off all-time in my book. I love the way Jordan flew through the air and his game, but the things Olajuwon did to people was down right dirty, silly, nasty. He made you look like you did not belong. First lets talk about the weak side of his game, his offense. Insane post moves, knock down mid range jumper, a nasty fade away, could cross you over as a 7 footer. On top of that he was a great passer out of the post, if we had an assisted assist he would probably be number # 1 all time. He passed it and the team passed it around the horn and knocked down three's and got easy buckets. Inside, Outside game, everyone touched the ball so they felt more a part of the team and that has to make you play harder. Offensive awareness 100. His strength: His defense All time leading shot blocker, cleaned up the boards as well. He would have had more rebounds but people were getting their shots blocked and he was altering shots so the PF would clean up the boards. Finished in the top ten all time in steals when he retired. He has to be the greatest defender off all time by far. He even did a great job in perimeter close out situations ala blocking John Starks in the finals, another time I remember watching him close out on Reggie Miller and he drew an offensive foul when Reggie tried to flop and create space to get a shot off. He would run the court up and down like a guard he blocked the hell out KJ, when he thought he had a dunk. The list goes on. He was just so complete as a player, unselfish, humble, Mr. Cool, calm, and collected, didn't need to trash talk. For my money I pick the Dream to build my team around, he truly elevated the game of every player around him. And those 93-94 Rockets were cold. Roberty Horry 6'10 nasty just dunking, blocking, explosive and also hell of clutch. Vernon "Mad Max" Maxwell too much fire too much passion Could explode for 50 and he did. Clutch shooter. Otis Thorpe the enforcer 1 handed hammer here it comes. Just playing big all the time, getting easy buckets. Wish we hadn't have had to let him go. Kenny Smith was a general running the point, making the rights reads, explosive and played the right way. Oh yeah also a clutch shooter and knock down 3 point shooter. And on the bench, who else would you want in that roll besides Mario Elie. Super Clutch Mario and he did whatever he had to to for his team to win, just a baller. And Sam Cassel was killin it. If Michael would have stayed that year his team would have had their hands full. The match ups favored the Rockets. The Rockets had the edge at Center and Point Guard. The two Generals and anchors of the offense and defense. We could have matched up with Pippen because of Horry and Maxwell's favorite thing to do was test himself against Jordan. Just wear him down MAX! Otis Thorpe and Horace Grant cancel each other out. Michaels Bulls however great never swept anybody in the finals. And Tim Duncan is the greatest power forward of all time but not the greatest Big-Man. I think Olajuwon in his prime beats Duncan in his prime 8 or 9 out of 10 times. Great Defense more often than not wins you the game and Olajuwon is miles a head of Duncan in that respect and Poppovich is arguably the best coach off all time- from in game situation to preserving the longevity of his stars career. But I think the best person to ask who is better would be the 95 MVP Mr. David Robinson. I wouldn't mind hearing his explanation of the better of those 2. He probably had the most first hand experience with Duncan and Olajuwon. Or Shaq.

He would eat the modern NBA alive. You can PnR with him and have absolutely insane options plus he's a great passer from the post. His offense goes all the way to the mid-range where he can start his attack and his post up game is absurdly efficient. Even more amazing if he teams up with good/great perimeter and wing defenders. They just funnel the ball handlers to him when they try attack the hoop. And even against bigger wings they better be careful when trying to get a match up against him as his hands are fast. Its not like a situation you get nowadays where the smaller guy can enjoy switching to get a match up against the center with no lateral quickness. Hell give him 3 and D wings for teammates from 1-4 who are decent passers and at least one of them who are shot creators and good luck with top teams cracking Hakeem and his squad down.
