When Ghandi "switched up his game" towards the end (a.k.a went for a throw), I think that was the most terrifying mindgame of the whole tournament.

FSP deserved to lose. He clearly had more skill and experience but he refused to control his emotions, kept falling for predictable patterns and didn't have to self awareness to stop doing harder combos when he knew Gandhi was mashing uppercut. If he had tighter links, Gandhi wouldn't have been able to punish him as much. Gandhi should get props for joining a competition knowing that he doesn't have much of a chance and seems to just want some fun.

These types of players can really throw off professionals, though. Graham Wolfe who was big in the ST scene told me once about how he got wrecked by a noob in a match because he played like Ghandi. Graham said he was super pissed when it happened. When you train your reflexes for so long, it's hard to immediately stop running off those reflexes.

I remember reading a thread on SRK about how people who are "random" or play really scrubby sometimes win against players who think because the player who thinks is trying to outsmart the random scrub but the scrub has no thought process. It's impossible to out think someone who doesn't think. This video is a perfect example of that thread.

@MagnetiX
@MagnetiX 10 жыл бұрын
secdeal A counter argument would be that to be able to adapt to something, you need a rhythm to adapt to. This match is akin to if you're boxing someone - instead of them doing a jab combination, they do a jab, bend over, and show their asshole. How do you even fight against that? Gandhi had zero rhythm, he was just pressing buttons and had no thought process in what he was going to do next. It's very difficult to adapt to that if you lose your cool, which FSP did. Yes, FSP went on full-tilt and should have just let Gandhi hang himself, but if you go to Dreamhack or EVO, you expect your opponents to at least be decent and not some button masher. I do give props to Gandhi, this match is utterly hilarious and the commentators made it a million times better.
@marcusshoults
@marcusshoults 10 жыл бұрын
MagnetiX He has plenty of patterns that were easy to exploit, aka a 'rhythm'. He almost always did jump in to sweep or dp, both punishable. Then jump back, fireball right away 90% of the time. FSP just reminds me of that certain caliber of lower-level players who go around throwing all these buzzwords, talk about option selects and frame data and then can't do simple fundamentals like anti-air or adjust (in this case, dumb down) their game plan to fit the player. I'm just going off this based on his hilariously salty reactions, as if he's 'too good' to fall for the shit he is falling for lol. Thank you, based Gandhi, for the harsh lesson.
