What a great idea! I am from Oahu, Hawaii and I use to be a polynesian dancer. Now I live in California. When I make leis for people. I have to use other materials that I can find in a craft store but I never thought you could do that. Mahalo Nui Loa for sharing this idea.

I got married in Hawaii on the Island of Oahu in a little private park. I wish I had you make my Lei po'o [if I said that right] I wore. I loved mine but yours are absolutely gorgeous. Mine actually got mildew on it on the way home on the plane. Bc when I opened up the container that it was in in the over head compartment I noticed the mildew on it so I had no choice but to throw it away. My husbands Ti Leaf Lei did great and I was able to dry it out and hang it on the wall in a natural branch type wreath. I am going to replicate one of yours using the white orchids so I have one. You do absolutely beautiful work. And I love the sentiment at the end of the video that your mom told you. Mahalo a na ke Akua e ho'omaika'i

Wonderfully instructed thank you! Can one use clear heavy plastic - does it make any difference?
@tori2dles7 жыл бұрын
Eileen Schuller - It doesn't make a difference. White, black, clear or other color --- whatever you have is fine. Though ti leaf is the traditional method, raffia (soaked in water to make it more pliable & to keep the foliage fresh) has become a standard. Since ti leaf is unavailable most places and raffia is an added expense, plastic is an alternative since most people already have trash/shopping bags in their home.

Toni Ow - Try using carnations or mums. These are sturdier flowers that keep fresh for a long time.
@tori2dles7 жыл бұрын
Toni Ow - Just make sure they aren't huge carnations/mums. Medium-small (not tiny) are better.
@primmy217 жыл бұрын
Toni Ow Rose buds work well. You can literally use anything as long as you can secure it in there.

Can you just put super glue at the ends of the trash bag, and glue the next strand? That way no need to stop mid lei? Also, can someone explain to me whats the difference between one Haku and Lei Po’o ?? Cause I grew up always calling a head lei .. a haku lei. But apparently I was wrong my entire life. Gotta call it one Lei Po’o. Which I know Po’o is head. Can you tell me the difference?
