Free Pattern from Nordic Needle Website. Click on link below and find the pattern called “Ivory Octagonal Doily” (about three quarters down the page):
www.nordicneedl...
Some fabric/thread suggestions:
Hardanger 22 count or Lugana 25 count fabric with #5 Pearl Cotton (kloster blocks, blanket stitches, satin stitches) and #8 Pearl Cotton (cable stitch, eyelets, woven bars, picots, doves eyes). In place of the #5 Pearl Cotton you can use Caron Watercolours or Valdani #5 Pearl Cotton (note: these are a little more difficult to work with. If you’re a beginner I would suggest staying with the DMC pearl cotton).
Suggested amount of thread: DMC #5 pearl cotton 1-2 skeins or Watercolours - 2-3 skeins. #8 pearl cotton - 1 ball. If using Valdani #5 - 2 balls.
If you are choosing another fabric count and have questions, please feel free to leave a message and I’ll do my best to answer.
Needle suggestions:
If using 22 count Hardanger or 25 count Lugana with #5 Pearl Cotton (or equivalent), use a size 22 tapestry needle. When using the #8 Pearl Cotton, use a size 24 tapestry needle.

It is a super tutorial as usual. Thank you for all the time you take in preparing each segments. The tip to mark where the corners are is a great help for me. I put in the thread temporary in place leave the needle there and once corner is done reuse same thread to mark the next corner. Since I was not able to get me brain around doing this stitch the left hand way I managed with moving the material sideways to work the right hand way. Whatever works right ! Having fun!

Unfortunately, Nordic Needle's brick and mortar store has been closed for some time, and their website seems offline, too. Any other way to get the HAL pattern?

Love your videos. To store your Hardanger pieces, roll them on a pool noodle. That will keep them from being crease.

I feel ready to do my usual White Rabbit impersonation - the one where I run around crying "I'm late, I'm late!" ;-) I am still not all caught up with the eyelets and round one of the cable stitches. But hopefully I'll be ready for the cutting.

You make me chuckle! No worries, do what you can when you can, the videos will always be there. Although I am always curious to see what colours you will be stitching in next!

Dear Nina, thanks for this clear explanation on how to do the cable stitch, but could you advise me on how to hide the thread tail at the, Could it be put under the cable stitches themselves or the button holes stitches? thank you

Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I prefer to hide the tail under kloster blocks that are close by. But I have hidden the tail under the cable stitches themselves. When I do that though I usually run my tail a little longer than necessary because I'm always afraid it will come out (so far it never has!). Thanks again!

wonderful tutorial. Do you wash the hardanger 22 count fabric before sewing on it? Thank you
@stitchingwithasmile677
@stitchingwithasmile677 7 жыл бұрын
I don't wash the fabric before stitching on it, only after I'm finished. Some fabric is rather stiff at first but as you stitch on it and handle it, it loosens up. Thanks for watching!

You have made my life just miserable! Yes, miserable. I can't be stitching each and every day. I've joined Stitch Maynia on FB and now want to try to do teeny tiny tent stitching on gauze (was just at a local needlework shop and saw some tiny pieces- right up my alley, but I didn't care for the colors used or the designs... so, well, now I have to figure out doing it on my own with either a larger purchased design done on gauze (where do I find gauze, LOL) or my own design- my preference.) Do you see what you've done to me? But yup, I'm loving every minute I get to be "at it". Still working on the cable stitch, hoping to get it finished today or tomorrow. Hubby is deer hunting, so I can "play" a bit. :D How was your festival? Is it over or still going? What is your next plan of torture for us? (Just kidding, I LOVE your videos.)

LOL! The festival went well. Not sure what's next. My only goal was to help others get started on hardanger, and to that end I've succeeded! The silk gauze is sold at needlework stores (I think it's around a 40 count). Erica Michaels is a designer who has patterns done on silk gauze and she includes the gauze in with each pattern (very handy). I have a couple of her patterns, but as yet not worked on them. So glad you're enjoying this!

Yes, it was Erica Michaels whose pieces I saw. But I like more color so would have to change out threads, but I also prefer "pictures" rather than words, etc. I am enjoying it very much. Didn't get to finish the cable yet but working on it. Have a bug of some sort which took me down yesterday, plus had about 150 bulbs to plant this past week so... Now need to find a bit of help with my dad, especially for some time in January. My mixed media pieces were both accepted (they are painted, then I do needle painting over part of them) in an international miniature show in FL and the tiny one won 1st place! So I have to go to that awards banquet! :D I'll be looking forward to your next video! And project. ;)
