Poor Hal...... That feeling of watching your buddies fly off into the distance then waiting for a new engine to arrive while stuck in the bush alone.. An expensive trip this year. Wish him fair winds and good luck with his plane. Cory...You haven't featured Hal in any of your vlogs and that does an injustice to such a cool headed guy who is a flying cowboy. @@theclephane2914 agreed, but there's a lot of assumptions made here. One, everything is going to go perfectly; the rescue plane is going to make it, cell coverage will remain constant, and Hal won't injure himself (because master mechanics are removed from the vagaries of accidents, right?) Leaving someone, anyone, to fend for themselves in the middle of nowhere was the best course of action available? Not even close.

Thanks for making videos that allow me to live my dreams of aviation vicariously through you (and the other Flying Cowboys)! My grandfather (Owen Black) used to take me up in his Cessna back when I was a teen and I reminisce about the good old days of flying with him frequently! An engineer friend of his (Neil Brutsche) designed an all metal ultralight called the "Freedom 28" and my grandfather built it for him. They took it to Oshkosh and won some awards with it 😎. Unfortunately they've both passed on. Grandpa passed while I was on my last deployment to the middle east this year and that's when I stumbled upon the videos that you and the Flying Cowboys have on KZbin. Long winded comment. .. but I just wanted to express gratitude for your content and the quality thereof! Thanks again for another great video (distraction 😎)!

Cory Robin, Wikipedia has some sketchy information on the Freedom 28. They're calling it the Freedom 40, apparently someone was confused but the photo they have is in fact the Freedom 28 with Neil Brutsche in the pilot seat. The photo was taken at bountiful's Skypark Airport. Funny fact: though my grandfather built the plane he would not fly it. .. it was a tail dragger and he wasn't comfortable without a nose wheel keeping the prop out of the ground 😎

@@flycory : In theory, I should get my brand new airplane in a week or two. It's already done and waiting, but the dealer received it the day before he left for Oshkosh ... plus two weeks of additional vacation with relatives nearby Oshkosh. So I got aced out of getting my airplane before Oshkosh by one or two days. What customer service, huh? :-( Seems I got even worse treatment than Hal !!!!! Anyway, if the Flying Cowboys let me tag along on their flights once I get my airplane, I volunteer to be the guy who gets to stay with whoever gets stuck on the ground. I guess I should always keep some extra water, food, snacks (and booze?) in the cargo area to be ready for such eventualities. The question remains, do the FlyingCowboys have room for a newbie to tag along on some of their trips? I got a really great cinema camera and gimbal that should let me take better videos than anything else we see (without all those awful compression artifacts that drive me crazy!!! ... but nobody else seems to notice). So, I should be able to shoot the most awesome flying videos of flying Cowboys. None of me though, unless someone carries a huge mirror on their airplane! Hahaha.

Here's the thing: Hal is more then capable of handling a minor situation (yeah, minor for him, not to most) like that on his own, and would probably prefer to do so. Inconveniencing others when their help really wasn't needed would just make him feel bad. He didn't need someone holding his hand while he waited for his engine and surely didn't begrudge the others "ditching" him. My reaction: " You good, Hal? Parts on the way? See ya!" Why’d you switch back to acme struts?
@flycory
@flycory 5 жыл бұрын
+Garrett Mattos I did lots of testing as I have four different kinds now. And I really like the ACME. It’s soooo close between the Shock Monster and ACME to me, but it came down to the following for me. They’re lighter. They’re less drag (racing) And they feel really really good when I need to Off-road in big nasty terrain. They are a air/oil dampened spring shock at the end of the day. I just like them both so I could run either. I’m just liking the ACME for my flying.

"It's another Rotax" ...For the life of me I cannot understand how Rotax were able to get an engine certified for aircraft ..My experience with those engines back in the early 70's when they were the motive power for our Skiroule snowmobiles was basically run them for 4 hours of snow fun then rebuild the dang things ...sometimes out in the middle of a frozen lake. They were absolute junk back then. With that experience behind me; no way would I ever trust one to pull me through the air. But, ,.... they must have come a long way since then, eh?

For every one bashing the cowboys for leaving Hal,,,,,,, Hal would not want you to stay on his behalf. He is a very humble man. But for safety, one of the cowboys should have insisted on staying. I just wish they would feature Hal more in some of these videos so every one can get to know the legend a little more.
