That sucks you got rained on. My sunrise was the single best experience of my life so far. I felt so lucky to be witness to it that I had tears coming out of my face. It will take your breath away. I couldn't get a ticket so I ended up booking a sunrise mountain view tour in order to see the sunrise. It was absolutely perfect weather. And during sunrise a rainbow came out over head and some bird flew over us (I think he said it was an ʻApapane) but he said it meant we were blessed by the gods. It was amazing. I'm going back in January to see sunset and take some astrophotography shots

I was fortunate enough to view the sunrise feb 1 2019. Even with snow gear it was cold but so worth it. 3am was so amazing with shooting stars. The sunrise was well worth the wait. Powerful. Highly recomend this experience!!!!!

Another nice video Josh. We always recommend trying to go for sunrise the first morning you’re here because if you came over from the mainland, your body wants to wake up early anyway. And yes, we think it’s worth he effort.

We did watch the sunrise and it was amazing. We even brought chairs because we got there very early, my children brought their blankets. We enjoyed our trip there.

Oh wow! I haven’t been since I was 13, 14 I’m 39 now so I guess that tells you. When I went to Maui in my late teens it was more of a family trip than sight seeing but def wanna experience the Haleakala sunrise in my adult life

The one time I made the climb up to Haleakala, it was so cold! Had been living in Hawai'i for a few years. Hearing so much about it, I wanted to see it. The extreme cold surprised me, I didn't even own a winter coat at that time. I had some thin blankets in the car. It was so beautiful, woke up at 0300 to grab some breakfast (papaya that a kind local woman gave me with some instant oatmeal) get there before it got too crowded. at 0530. Sunrise was estimated at 0612. By my clock, the sun began to rise at 0615. Close enough! I went to a couple other events, then, 2 days later for the sunset. It has to be a toss up in the breathtaking views between sunrise & sunset on Haleakala! Best advice ~ BRING A HEAVY COAT! Ha ha! I'm glad you said that!

So sorry that you got rained out on your sunrise! We went just a couple weeks ago and it was also supposed to rain but we somehow magically got a perfect undercast. While it was one of the best sunrises I've ever seen, just comparing our footage, that sunset you got was pretty amazing too. I'd say overall everyone should get to see a Haleakala sunrise once in their lives, but if you get rained out, the alternative is not something to complain about! If you go again for sunrise, we found a perfect spot away from all the crowds across the parking lot from the viewing platform... highly recommend for unobstructed views!- Elise

if you rent all 3 cabins, 1 per day, you stay in the crater for 3 nights and hike all around there.(if they still rent the cabins) The story of Maui was that he caught the sun and pulled it closer so that the days would be shorter, i think.

What month did you go? I am going in end of feb for sunrise. However I want to view the stars before sunrise in particular the southern cross (which I cannot see from where I live LA). I didn't know it could rain that high in elevation

Tickets are released at 7:00 am Hawaii time. I recommend you’re there 10 mins early and log in before you try. Keep refreshing till they show up. Good luck 🤞🍀

Oh sorry to hear that. It’s not easy to get sunrise passes. This weekend I’m dropping the Best of Oahu then in a few weeks Molokai! Molokai is definitely one of my favorite islands in the world. Hopefully you got to see the water fall and maybe take a boat to see the cliffs. Thx for watching.
