Colombian here. I've lived in several places around the world and know well that for a few weeks you have to pay way more than normal until you get to know the city, the shops etc. $2300 for a small apartment is outrageous. You can get something very comfortable somewhere else in Medellin for a 1/4 of that. Security wise, Medellin is not safe at all. However, if you use very basic common sense, you'll be totally fine. Medellin is really an awesome place to be, specially if you are a single male!!

Nice video. Medellin has really 2 metro lines, which are also connected to a special bus system (Metroplus) and to some cable car lines (Metrocable) that are part of the same transport system, there is one of them that’s touristic and takes you out of the city to a natural park called Parque Arví, where you can plan nice hikes around the forest.

If you come to Medellin for a few months strictly as a high earning digital nomad then the price for that apartment might be worth it. It really is a spectacular balcony. If you plan to remain here longer term you can do much better on the rent. I rented an unfurnished 2/2 with a small balcony but similar spectacular view in Laureles. We have a 24 hour doorman. I bought my own furniture and rent out my parking space to the company next door. Due to the most favorable exchange rate for hard currency my rent runs me under USD 500 including utilities, internet and cell phone. I've met digital nomads here who earn in hard currency but not nearly as much as Haley. It's possible to make it here on a LOT less. Haley went first class, top of the line.

Okay, as for the precautions you mentioned, there’s this saying we have that applies to it and as a Colombian myself the one and only advice we can give you to those visiting and that you’ll probably hear the most and most Colombians will always tell you or say very frequent is “NO DAR PAPAYA”. Which means exactly that, don’t put yourself in a vulnerable situation where you may be taken advantage of and just keep an eye on your belongings, because papaya given is papaya taken- ALSO, that milk was soooo expensive the one I drink is around like $1.50? Girl, if you went to Carulla that supermarket is literally one of the most expensive here in Colombia if not the most, even if you found it really “cheap”, but not gonna lie they have good quality products if you are into that healthy lifestyle, I mean there’s more variety but you can find that elsewhere! Hahaha! Well, now you know or anyone reading this! 😅😂 I think out of the 3 neighborhood/areas you mentioned El Poblado is the best, it was there where my family and I stayed, it was kinda central to every place we went to. I mean, it was easy to move around, my dad called it as a strategic place. Such a beautiful neighborhood to be honest! 😌 anyway, I am glad you enjoyed your stay in here! You’re more than welcome anytime! ♥️
@williamserna83983 жыл бұрын
I saw that price and thought the same. I went back and realized is 2 bucks for 3 lts of milk which is OK, still on the high side but not that crazy.

For that budget you could have rented a Penthouse with a private pool Haley, I think you can do better for 2300 USD, that’s a lot of money in Colombia. For around 2500 USD you could pretty much get a mansion.
@HaleyTakesOntheWorld3 жыл бұрын
I would love to know what I can do to get an apartment like that for a lower price. What websites should I visit?
@lifewithclemens3 жыл бұрын
@@HaleyTakesOntheWorld Usually the English speaking big real estate agencies will try to “Gringo Price” foreigners and you won’t get as good of a deal even though they will want you to think you are getting a good deal. The best way is through Spanish speaking agencies or directly the owners, you can ask security guards around areas you are interested in, they usually know when there is a place up for rent. I can also give you the number of a good realtor, the only honest one I have found who also speaks English. Let me know if you want her contact info and if so I’ll send you her information on Instagram.
@HaleyTakesOntheWorld3 жыл бұрын
@@lifewithclemens thank you for your reply! Since I had never been to Medellin before, and didn’t know anyone in Colombia, I would not have been able to ask locals about real estate, or look up the local websites in Spanish. I am also very particular about where I stay, and the apartment amenities I need. I’ve found it’s difficult to get the full answer when going through people, without having proper photos, reviews, renter’s insurance, and overall security and professionalism in the housing search. Please do send me a DM me on IG and we can talk more there and share info 🙏🏽

I am a fitness nut so, those would be great to run. I wanted to ask you about the gyms there. Did/do you work out at any? Also, how is their health care? I had a very serious tumor years ago so, it's top of mind to make sure wherever I go has decent care if needed (thankfully not needed in the last decade). I always get extra intl travel insurance but that doesn't matter if the country has poor care.
