next time you get cut hydrangeas try this: "When a hydrangea is cut, displayed in a vase, and looking quite lifeless, turn the flower upside down and completely submerge its head into a bowl of water overnight. “Hydrangeas are one of the only flowers that actually absorb water through the petal” ....---- They might not need an entire overnight soak but this trick does work! :)

Dracaena trifasciata (snake plant) are probably the most maintenance free plant you can buy. You could literally throw it in a dark closet and forget about it for months, and it would still be alive. Basically impossible to kill, they look cool, and they purify the air well.

Sarah and Alyssa. Two lovely ladies. I hope your friendship lasts a very long time! Lovely pearls! What a nice way to celebrate. I remember visiting the place in Mie Prefecture where Mikimoto pearls are cultured. That was a fun trip. I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that the fruit Japanese call 'melon' is the honeydew melon for Americans. The Japanese 'musk melon', I think we call cantaloupe melon (or simply cantaloupe). And then 'suika', of course, is watermelon.

I'm also watching Monk! But for the first time ever. Loving it! My favourite episode so far is the stabbing knife prop at the theatre where Monk steps in to act and puts on a western accent! Hilarious. But also love the one where he helps his brother escape a house fire after 32years staying inside he finally is outside. Very touching episode 🙂

"give me plant recs" oh no you've said the magic phrase. 😂 Anyways, snake plant (honestly anything in the dracaena genus is pretty hardy indoors), zz plant, rubber fig, most succulents or cacti, and Chinese money plant are some ideas. Although YMMV because it depends on your climate - I live somewhere very humid and rainy. Also, most plants have some wiggle room on adapting to low water, so you can slowly extend the time between watering sometimes if you'd prefer that. At worst, if you see a plant you like, Google where it's from. If that climate is similar to where you live, it'll be low maintenance for you. Or buy native plants! Most plant stores give recommendations.

I have a ponytail palm. It's not really related to a palm tree, it's a succulent, but it's shaped kind of like a mini-palm tree! The best thing about it is, it is maybe one of the most forgiving plants I've ever cared for. I went to Japan for 2 and half months last year and watered it the day I left, and the day I came home and it was fine!

For low-effort plants: PEACE LILY! I keep expecting it to die (like my other plants) but this one has kept thriving and growing and uplifts my space. Indirect sunlight is more than enough but only thing is that it doesn't take well to the cold (have yet to test this, but from a quick google search seems like it's totally doable). BUT lasts 10-12 days sans waters. Gambette 😆
@sarahjenkins80743 ай бұрын
I was coming here to post just this! I am terrible with plants but inherited my mum's Peace Lily and 4 years later it is still going strong. The secret is to not water until it is going droopy (which can be a couple of weeks) and then I plonk the pot in the sink for about an hour. Doesn't like direct sun but loves humidity so it's in my bathroom. Wipe the leaves occasionally too.
