Sometimes I catch gleams of Buddhist and Taoist elements in his poetry. Often solitary, introspective, his poetry includes surrealist contemplations on death and nature. A good poet - and a solid, respectable choice for the Nobel Prize. He has his limitations, though: his output was meagre, his range rather limited, and his poems are almost always in the first person. Or rather: one feels that it's the same observer (Transtromer himself) relating to the world. I don't recall him ever writing in the voice of multiple characters, or even from the point of view of a woman. Some beautiful lines in the poem: yes, those about the door opening to the room are excellent.
