Dude, this is some next level shit. Really found the perfect balance for what a instructional bjj channel should aspire to be. I think many people don't realize that a channel is not to be paced as a dvd-instructional nor as in class instrucion.
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man!! Took me a a bit to figure out how to do things different than everyone else, but now I've got a feeling people are going to start copying me when they get wind of it. Seems like most have been stuck with the same old for years. Imitation is the best form of flattery though right 😏
@davidlee95722 жыл бұрын
Completely agree! I've tried playing half guard for years and watched tons of instructionals, and yet somehow i feel like I've learned more from this 7 minute video than from all of those. To be fair those are much more detailed, and definitely knowing those details helps, but the way all of the techniques are shown together quickly really gives me a much better idea of what a complete half guard bottom game can look like. Love it.
@guam582 жыл бұрын
@@davidlee9572 I was forced into playing half-guard due to an injury. And, I have too say it is one of the most effective guards with a cornucopia of defenses and offenses. The isolating one half the opponents body makes it one of the easier guards to really understand fairly quickly. Underhooks, controlling an arm, t-rexxing, mastering the use of knee shield low, medium and high, controlling opponents hip, controlling opponents leg, understanding close, medium and long range distance from close guard, getting to deep half, haf butterfly, lock down, love it too death. Bernardo Faria was my inspiration of the half guard.

Thank you Professor for your 1/2 guard video and your instructional on BJJ fanatics. Really good stuff. Highly recommend. I like how you show us how not to get smashed and how to attack. The way that you have it organized makes it easy for me to remember. I like how you organize it as attacking from the left to right while having half guard on the left. Left arm attacks: John Wayne sweep, flower sweep, underhook attacks,over hook attacks then lapel attacks: loop choke, then right arm attacks: roll over sweep, x guard entry, kimura. All great stuff on it.

Great instructional narration, if possible for each one of the techniques you do live can you provide the smal details that make the technique more effective. For example, John Wayne sweep is very simple, but understanding leg placement as well as getting hips under partner for an effective sweep would help a lot. I have been training for 3 years and still always trying to understand the little details to make techniques more effective and efficient. The one instruction that really stood out is getting the desired grips, before attempting a sweep. In another video you had I really started to really understand breaking the grips as it is happening, because once the grip is established it sucks trying to break.
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu2 жыл бұрын
Definitely! I'll be doing a way more detailed half guard instructional really soon!

First time watching this video. My go too 99% of the time is underhook, stop the cross face, on my side and dog fight. I didn't know it was called that though. It's time to add more technique to this position so this is the first place I stopped. It seems like knee shield and grip fighting is an entirely different approach to underhooking. I will just have to experiment. Thank you for another great video.

White belt checking in again. As someone who likes the various guard positions, these are helpful. Especially when you slow them down and show different angles. I hope I can make this as second nature/easy as you make it look someday. As someone who is elder (meh 42) and has been married for 16 years, I would suggest letting Nikki (sp?) win sometimes. haha

You're killing it with these videos. On the John Wayne sweep, I see it taught a lot of times with the knee free and more on their stomach. Is there an advantage to the way you do it by shooting all the way underneath or a situation you would do one or the other?
@JordanTeachesJiujitsu2 жыл бұрын
I think shooting all the way underneath is way better because you load them onto your hips. For most sweeps, the closer more under them you are the easier it is. They're basically weightless once loaded onto your hips. And thank you!! I'm glad you think so. Means a lot to me 🙏
