Al, Great piece of wood. Great, organic design even though you would have preferred the other orientation. Funny. My eye so wanted the top of the shape that you did end up with to be the bulbous end. Like a hot air balloon. Wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. Also, great instruction throughout this video.

I totally agree about the lathe. I'm an old guy now but I've been a carpenter/construction supervisor for a good portion of my life. Over my life I've been nibbled on by tools that have sharp spinning blades or bits. My favorite tools now are the band saw and the lathe and also nice hand tools. Another excellent video. Thanks!
@AlFurtado6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it my friend. I love my band saw as well but am a bit intimidated by it. Hello there my friend, excellent job, and I know you changed your mind in the orientation but the piece is still definitely a wow...! I think the piece is absolutely beautiful...!! Another awesome piece my friend... I totally agree with you about the banjo extention, I have one with my lath and I hate it, I’ve had my this lathe for about six years and I’ve never used it. I don’t know why they don’t just make the banjo bigger/longer... All the best, cheers...
@AlFurtado6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for such a nice compliment. I agree even though I have wished I had one of those arms on occasion I agree they should just give us longer banjos. . Those darn banjos cost as much as a lathe. in my case I need one as my banjo does not pass the 12" capacity that the lathe was designed for and I turn 16" to 18" pieces LOL
@adamquincey43716 жыл бұрын
Rebel Turner Wood Art I’ve tried on various occasions to purchase a larger banjo from another make of lathe but I’ve had no joy in finding one... All the best my friend...
@lesgallivan41594 жыл бұрын
@@adamquincey4371 did you find a larger banjo yet ? I saw your comment while I was on hold with oneway manufacturing, and looking at their web page at same time . They offer banjos to fit other brand lathes , up to 24" swing , but you are right in that price is bit hefty

Fabulous piece Al, I agreed with everything you said about safety etc, I was an engineering centre lathe turner and like you on your wood lathe; I’ve chucked up some weird and wonderful things over the years and the main factors when doing such things are safety awareness, as you pointed out; don’t stand in the firing line... and having confidence in your equipment and your ability, having confidence means you should automatically know when you’re doing something you shouldn’t be doing and to stop doing it. Sorry I’ve gone on a bit, I love your videos and the pieces you turn out, keep them coming mate..👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧🇺🇸

Al - I am not sure if I would agree or disagree with your statement on the lathe being the safest tool in the shop (I am leaning towards agreeing as I become more proficient with my lathe). But I can most certainly understand the logic and being a computer scientist - logic is a good thing to me 😎. The piece is beautiful - I strive to become able to see what is in the raw wood to produce such things.
