To be completely honest they already threw that ending into the dumpster by putting him in more movies, but you could always pretend they weren't canon. It's gonna be hard to ignore an entire show named after him though

@Mike Nah. It's just that it's lazy and spammy. Also when it's just text without any emoticon or similar, you can't easily tell if someone's making a joke or if they're making an idiotic statement because they actually believe it. Poe's Law exists for a reason. Same with people who spam the word "oof". Either explain why you think it's an "oof" or don't clog the comments with idiotic, lazy responses.

The response to that is to turn it into an invite only (like what they did with E3). You see the studios have so much clout they can pick their audiences now. We live in an age where companies get to chose their customers, and the customers soon can not refuse to pay.

@@calimarine92 I think it's just a matter of cost, both money and time. Not only will you be spending money on tickets, lodging and food just to be there at the event but each panel you attend means waiting in line for hours. The audience for any panel is going to be filled with ultra-fans because they are the only ones committed enough to go through all that bullshit just for a trailer and a q&a. They decided before they entered the room that they would probably like what they see because they need to justify the time and money they spent to get in.

@@sacrecharlemagne2262 seems pretty accurate.... ultra fans are kinda dangerous to regular fans the way they celebrate everything. Like Marvel.. I was a huge Marvel fan as a kid, had hundreds of comic books with spiderman hulk & X-men primarily (it was the 80's you know) but all this Marvel crap that for a major part does not compute with the universe that the comic books established just keeps getting spat out in incredible volumes and it's long since I came to the point that I straight out dislike Marvel.. it's become a Marvel I can't recognize... me, a former ultra fan. Those new fans might be ultra - but they're not real Marvel fans.. they just celebrate the movies to an ridiculous degree. But they are the ones spending a lot of bucks - so the producers love them... and ofcourse they want them to tell the rest of us how great every single movie is. Im under 30 and grew up watching reruns of TNG with my Trekkie Father. I always saw Picard as an emotionally distant but caring and driven Old man. The kind of man who would give advice but let you fail and only help you further if you asked for help. Who would otherwise watch passively despite you hurting yourself as he felt that the pain was a lesson in itself. Apparently he is just some doting old grandpa who totally kicks bad guys butts.

Hugo/Nebula/Pulitzer winning author Michael Chabon is the showrunner, and the show was the idea of acclaimed Trek novelist Kirsten Beyer (famous for uncrapping Voyager with her beloved and best-selling post-series novels). Beyer, Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman met with Stewart, who took the meeting with the intention of turning the project down but was intrigued enough by their discussion to ask them for a three-page document outlining Beyer's ideas. Goldsman then invited Chabon to work on the project as well and the four ultimately produced a 34-page document that they sent to Stewart. Needless to say, he loved it. In Beyer and Chabon I trust. This looks amazing

@@minski76 Its a harsh way to end the show, but I wouldn't call it a bad episode. It would have been a pretty cool idea - if the show also had a proper ending in addition to it.

They are wrong about some of it though, it would be funnier if they turned out to be like 95% right. The Borg cube is obviously not out to destroy Earth, we saw in the trailer that it was being used by the Federation as a prison, it had a dry erase board saying "it has been 372 days since the last assimilation" or something. I would bet the girl is Picard's daughter or granddaughter or something. They didn't even mention Data/B4!

@@gkraith2995 If they get the Lovecraft aspect of it right (and that's a really big if) this might just be a great movie. Unless you're talking about New Mutants, then I don't know what to do except agree lol.

That doesn't mean anything, check mark, except that you don't know what "modern" means when it's next to "philosophy", as *_the modern era of philosophy ended at the beginning of the last century._* Whether or not you hold any truck with "postmodern" (I don't), the phrase is "contemporary philosophy".

PICARD should have been about him retired and finally following his other passion, archaeology. This would have given a valid reason for him going to many other worlds, negotiating with aliens, facing danger and ethical choices. Henry Jones meets Tomb Raider in space.

A main plot that could have worked, which was actually already set up in Deep Space 9, would have been Picard discovering that the Federation was corrupt. It would've been perfect, and I just naively assumed that was what the next Star Trek series was going to be about after DS9. I haven't watched Star Trek since then, except for the movie remake. His way of using his intellect and reason to solve problems, with his retirement being a possible issue, yeah they missed the boat and I think this IP is done just like Star Wars I genuinely am baffled that the whole thing was dropped and they instead pursued 293847 other series that were essentially the same idea as TNG but shittier and more generic.

This is exactly right. It has the benefit of being an established part of Picard's character, something he would believably do, and gives writers a convenient excuse to have an old man going on adventures and facing moral dilemas for a TV show. Why no one involved in the Picard fiasco thought of that boggles the mind.
