M4 and Beretta were only reskins of the MP5 and Glock from Half-Life. You could enable them by turning on the HD pack. The M4 had different gun sounds than the regular MP5, Beretta just had the ordinary Glock sound.

You know what always bugged me about the game? It was that the deaf grenades never came out of the center of the screen like they did in the original Half-Life. They came out from the side and it really made throwing the things difficult as they could bounce off of the walls unintentionally and fuck up your throws.

Honestly, I had problems with both games with sound, functionality, and animation. I hated the MP5 in both games and never used them. MP5 in Half-Life was clumsy looking when fired and were inaccurate with no power in it. MP5 in Black Mesa just felt really weak and lackluster. Honestly, the only weapons I liked were the revolver (Fuck the Aim down sights though, those zoom in WAY too close), the shotgun and the pistol but only the pistol in Half-Life 1.
