@@Del-Canadainterestingly enough it ran with no issues on Pentium III 533mhz - loading times were legendary... But game itself worked just fine. It was actually ridiculously well optimised especially compared to DOOM3 that was extremely demanding for a time.

The biggest flex is that after ALL this years, Gabe never went public with Valve. That's half of the reason why Valve is still one of the most respected gaming companies in the world, not having shareholders to suck up to is HUGE! The other half is of course making infinite money from Steam, that also helps massivily avoiding to go public.

Well Gabens comment at the end of the documentary gives half life 3 coming out more credibility too, he says valve releasing a half life is basically a promise to gaming fans that they will get an experience they have never got in gaming thanks to valve using new tech and innovations and using the vehicle of half life to express that, and he mentions how he sees many opportunities in the gaming scene today to give fans those new experiences

@@PMoney-sk7kb most likely hl3 isnt a highly active/big project right now.. as they say in the doco, making the game backwards is how you figure out what the game is. unless they have a new idea to toy with and blow everyone away, nobody is gonna be able to commit to the majority of the game i think in the case of half life specifically, making the game has to inspire the team enough, to go make an entire OTHER game; counterstrike, portal etc. they get good at the mechanics in that game, and eventually it all culminates in the next version of HL

I thought I was doomed after watching all those shorts and ended up with short span attention, but this 2h documentary seemed to have healed me. Sit through the whole thing, it was PEAK documentary like the one we got for HL1 last year. Also, that slime mob and the new cryo gun is cool af. But instead of just a gun that shoots ice, why not make it shoots heat too? Not like a flamethrower, but like heat wave/laser, sort of portal gun parallel where instead of shooting blue and orang portals, it shoot ice (blue) and heat/laser (orange). I don't know how the logic works, a gun that shoots two elements that oppose(?) each other, but it sounds cool to me.

I was thinking he may be a functional psychopath too, combining his statement in the previous documentary saying he basically doesn't have nostalgia for things. Definitely a functional human being though, he does show he has empathy or have the notion for it when he talked about the risk neigborhood affecting other people around him when he takes on more risk than sane people. If he is a psychopath, then he's the kindest, most humane psychopath there is.

I think the leak most have been the most terrifying stuff the devs at valve may had faced ever in their lives, it brought insecurity of what they were doing for the multiple games at the time, it brought fear that any of their ideas may be getting stolen for others to use without authorization in other stuff or even criticize before it became even a thing, and it brought a mist of uncertainty to see if the game wouldn't had been published before being ended up and if the final product once released wouldn't have a bad image

I just turned 40 this year and seeing this brings me way way back! I still play CS to this day. but Ive never understood the flak that Gabe gets, but I think I got it.......we were kids too back then trying to figure this stuff out, and its just easier to come along and shit on someone or their work than taking the time to understand what constraints they were under at the time. also, it took me a minute to realize why the background in the window was shifting during his interview, but thats a ballin' ass yacht boy! I mean, I watched the entire doc and they never teased HL2 pt3. They showed that they started development of environments and new weapon capabilities, but thats it. They said they were leaving it in the past. I believe they may release an entire Remake of HALFLIFE 2 and then the subsequent DLCs up to pt 3 in the future. But Def not just a pt 3 drop.

I bought the game with money i had saved for ages as a kid.. only to get it installed and be denied access as didint have the internet. I dont think I ever really got over that.. I HATE not having disks/physical copies of games now. Great game but I dont like the way its all gone unfortunately

I see what they're saying but (and mybe I'm alone in this thought) but I was more expecting HL episode 3 than a brand new HL3 game. Sure maybe add a little bit of new stuff but the point was more about finishing the story than creating a brand new game.
