Hey man, the Universal Union is well known to be screwed up in the head. They just hang Gunships up on the walls until they're needed. Judging by the fins, Gunships are SUPPOSED to have been a large fish from their planet, but they ended up getting synthetic changes by the Combine. So realistically, landing gear wouldn't even be necessary, since they're supposed to be in water anyway.
